I had received another posting advising me it was in Stirling, but as my ancesters were in Greenock, I think you have the correct St Ninians. The trouble with parish names is they can be repeated several times throughout a country. All the Best TOM
Hello, We are tea drinkers, and I like to use different brands of tea for variety. Yesterday I went to open a box of Salada tea and noticed a bit of history of the Salada Tea Company. The first corporate headquarters and packaging plant was opened in Boston, MA, in 1917. And, the Salada Tea Building still exists.* I did a search for the history of Lipton Tea, and came across this web site. It mentions the life of .. Thomas LIPTON .. who "was the son of poor Irish immigrants" who "grew up in the slums of Glasgow." He was b.1850, and at Age 10 ... "went to America." http://www.geocities.com/lgol27/HistoryTeaCeylon.htm I also looked for the history of Red Rose Tea, and discovered that company began in .. Canada, and involves the ESTABROOKS name in 1899 in New Brunswick. Hope people find this interesting. Betty (near Lowell, MA, USA) FYI: Here is something I found by accident - a timeline for popular food and kitchen items .. when they were introduced to the world. http://www.geocities.com/foodedge/timeline.htm *If you do a Google search for either "tea history" or "Salada tea" or "Salada history," you will find many web sites discussing the history of tea, and when "tea" was first used and why, and telling about a tea museum in Taiwan.

That IGI record is the Matthew I am searching for, but it was submitted by an individual and is incorrect as I know for certain that Matthew was born in Ireland. Matthew died between 1854-6, though as yet i have not been able to find a death record for him (I have tried scotlandspeople.gov and there is nothing in the OPR or Statutory records for his death). I have never seen the 1861 Scottish census so i have no idea why they were on their own- they also had another, not much older brother (as his shown in the IGI records you posted- he was called James and also only a child in 1861) so I don't know why they were on their own at all. Was there anybody else given in their household? Matthew's wife Elizabeth remarried in 1861 to a John Keating so perhaps they lived with a John and Elizabeth Keating? I have no idea why their brother James was not with them.. I have also tried desperately to find a copy of Matthew and Elizabeth's original marria! ge record but again to no avail. I imagine they were married in Stirlingshire or Lanarkshire (As their first two children were born in Airdrie according to the orginal OPRs) and it was probably, as the IGI records states about 1845 but without the original marriage record (or Matthew's death record) I cannot find out who Matthews parents were. I have been working on this sometime and have had absolutely no luck whatsoever. Any info or advice is incredibly appreciated. Thanks again. Sarah

It states that Matthew was born in 1820 in Kilsyth. It gives Elizabeth's parents as Simon WARDROPE and Marion GARDNER. The children of Matthew and Elizabeth are given as: James, 25 Sept 1856 William, 6 Aug 1849 Marion, 7 March 1852 Matthew, 10 Dec 1854 all born in Kilsyth. This looks likely to be your Matthew. Why were the children on their own in 1861?

I am aware of those Phibbs'- in fact, my line goes right back to them. Do you have access to teh 1841 census at all? Those you listed, were the children of a Matthew Phibbs married ca 1845 in Stirlingshire or Lanarkshire (not sure which) and he was recorded on the 1851 Kilsyth census as an Irish immigrant and I have been trying to find out if he was already in Scotland by 1841 or if any other Phibbs' were on that census (in fact on the 1851 census Matthew's name was spelt "Ffibss" which makes matters mor difficult). I am also trying to contact any living Phibbs' relatives so would love to hear from anybody. Thanks again. regards, Sarah

Bay area. I think. I do not know the back ground of the father Joe(joseph)p Kirkland. The boys were probably born in the late 1940s to 1950s. I have tried several calls in the USA. but to only find the wrong person. I am not giving up . they are only many in a string of cousins that I need to find. My mother had 10 siblings and all are dead but 2. The moms did not do a good job of sticking with their husbands(muchless) the children. Thanks for the response

My father has put together a partial history from Ann Loten down to Mary Whelen (my father's grandmother. Ann was his ggg grandmother). If you like, I can email it to you if you provide me with your address. You can reach me directly at: kc@magma.ca. If you are able to fill in any more of the blanks on the family history, that would be terrific. Also, I looked up the Shawville cemetary on the net but was unable to find a site with the gravestone of Ann Loten - could you direct me in that regard? Thank you.
