It is in the parish of Wandel and Lamington in Lanarkshire. Lesmahagow is about eight miles away - the source of your information may have confused Lamington and Lesmahagow. Wandel is on Wandel burn and so I expect that there would have been a mill there.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/EgC.2ACE/9991 Message Board Post: Hello Listers, I am pleased to announce that the Scottish part of FreeREG is about to start. This is a sister (or brother!) project to FreeBMD and FreeCEN. FreeREG aims to produce quality transcriptions of the Old Parish Registers so that they can be searched, free, on the Internet. I am the Scotland co-ordinator and I am looking for people who would like to co-ordinate the distribution of film within a particular county and give support to volunteer transcribers. Only Angus and Fife have co-ordinators at present. We have the requisite permissions from GROS for this, and the Genealogical Society of Utah is kindly lending us the film. You will find the FreeREG site at www.freereg.rootsweb.com if you wish to read more about the project in general. If you would like to be a county co-ordinator, please get in touch with me at annef1@tiscali.co.uk . If you would simply like to transcribe, then please also get in touch and I will hold your names until we have a co-ordinator for the county of your choice. All the best, Anne Fish

    1. New Lister - Murdoch BROWN b. circa 1750 Edinburgh
    2. Dsilva.Genealogy
    3. Hi I wonder if anyone can help me, I am new to genealogy in Scotland. I am looking for a Murdoch BROWN born circa 1750 in Edinburgh who went to India in 1775 via Lisbon where he spent the rest of his life and died in 1828 in Tellicherry, India. Murdoch Brown was one of the first British Settlers and worked for the Honourable East India Company. It is believed he was Supt. of Police and was an Overseer of a large Plantation which he later owned. In searching for his birth in Edinburgh on the IGI I have found one possibility of a Murdoch BROUN b. 3 Jun 1754 to Samuel BROUN and Agnes SCOULLER. The film has no other children for this couple. It is possible that this could be the correct entry for the Murdoch I am searching as his first son had the middle name of Samuel and his first daughter was called Agnes. Has anyone got a Murdoch BROWN in their tree? Or could anyone please give me some advice on how to locate his siblings and check his parents to enable be to go back. Any help will be appreciated. Linda

    1. FISHER
    2. Barbara Black
    3. Hi Listers I too am interested in the Fisher surname. PETER FISHER was born in KILLIN in 1825, the son, so I thought from looking at the IGI and Scotland's People, of DUNCAN FISHER and MARGARET MCARTHUR BUT Peter's son DONALD states on his father's death certificate that PETER'S parents were ALEXANDER FISHER & CATHERINE MCFARLANE. I could find no evidence at the A& K Bell Library while on holiday in Perth, with the help of the wonderful archivist, that his parents were the latter 2. So do you think that the son had made a mistake? Does anyone have access to the 1841 KILLIN or CALLANDAR Census - Peter is in CALLANDAR in 1851. He would have been about 16 in 1841 and so might still have been living with his parents and, therefore, I might solve the mystery. Many thanks for any light you can shed on this mystery. Barbara
