If your Edward and Sara married in Scotland, then the record IS available. Why should people pay to access the site you gave to lookup your request? If they married in Scotland then there is available<free> access to marriage records for Scotland from 1855- to almost the present. Are Edward and Sara your great grandparents=if so, what is the full name of their first born or any of their children? Patrick.

    3. I am looking for anyone who may be doing research on either the FRATER or MANSON families. I am especially interested in a possible marriage between a William FRATER and Sarah MANSON. (There is possibility that it was a John FRATER that married Sarah MANSON.) I have a bibliography that claims they had a son on 31 January 1890 (William). If the eldest then I can guess they were married around that time period. I say claim because there is some conflicting information about the relationship. Someone has kindly offered to look up the birth of the son William in the Scottish indexes for me next week, but I am curious to resolve some other conflicting details. If the data is accurate then William and Sarah would have been living in Ochiltree Castle, Linlithgow in 1890. Other eclectic data implies that Sarah MANSON may have born in Glasgow in 1866. However there are other possibilities. Sorry for the vague request but I am still reading around different segments at the moment trying to piece together different bits of information and just wondered if someone had been here before and already worked it out. Regards Kerry

Many dissenting registers are not indexed or the indexes are difficult to access. An OPR index that includes these records would be a big improvement. However, some Churches may not permit you to include their records.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/EgC.2ACE/10003.1 Message Board Post: The General Registry Office for Scotland maintain an index to the Old Parish Registers. Kathleen Cory's book "Tracing Your Scottish Ancestry" states that this index is based upon the indexing done by the LDS for the IGI. Although the two have a common ancestry, they have been maintained separately and so entries appear in one that don't appear in the other. The GROS will correct errors reported to them. Few deaths are indexed - hence the SAFHS project to compile a National Burials Index. There does seem to be some duplication of efforts - it is a pity to expend scarce resources re-doing indexing already done. However, this is complicated by commercial considerations, copyright etc. I hope this posting helps to clarify matters.

    3. Hello Sharon, I'm not sure why you've put this on the Scotland list. Isabelle & Frank BRIGHAM show up on the 1880 US census in Nebraska www.familysearch.org . Her birthplace, AND the birthplace of her parents is given as "B.Amer." which I trust is British America. This is a reference to the British Colonies in America - present day Canada, and also the British colonies in the US until 1776. Given the time period you're talking about, I'd guess they meant Canada. Your best bet I think would be to trace the marriage of Frank/Isabella for her parents' names, and the 1890 and 1900 US census to narrow down her death year, then order the certificate. Interestingly, if you look up FLETT in Nebraska in 1880 US census, you find James & Mary, in the same town as Isabelle & Frank BRIGHAM, who give birth years consistent with being Isabelle's parents, and who give their birth places as "B.Amer." as well. Worth looking at. She was born around 1861 and may have dies after 1886 but that is a guess. They lived in Nebraska and she was a word of the court for some time but suddenly refeences of her dissapeared fromm the court records. Her grandmother may have been a Livingston. Anyone have any clues??? Appreciate any hel. I am no longer a list member because some people on this list have been unkind to me. Be careful that the information you share becomes private information and is not shared with the list. I find that when a question is asked, one person inparticular will ask that you contact her privately to exchange information. Therefore, you do not see any answers to the questions posted on this list. I have been contacted several times from people that seemed to want to share info. Those people have been told not to share info with me so when I contact them, they do not respond. I feel this conduct is unacceptable and unprofessional. I feel sure that you will be contacted and asked to exchange info off list with the exception of Mildred Jones. If you want to be treated fairly, contact her. Her email is majones83@msn.com. She will give you answers and posts all her information thru the list. She's a peach of a lady. Good luck in your search.. Always,
