    1. Seeking Scottish Milners For Possible Free Genetic Genealogy Testing
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Milner, Milliner Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/EgC.2ACE/10045 Message Board Post: Seeking Scottish Milners for possible free genetic genealogy testing. Evidence has been mounting that the Milner line(s) of Edward Milner, born 1745, and or Isaac Milner, born 1775 had Scottish Ancestors. For example, the following item titled: Past and Present of the City of Springfield and Sangamon County, Illinois, by Joseph Wallace, M.A., of the Springfield Bar, The S.J. Clarke Publishing Co., Chicago, IL, 1904 included the following: "......James Milner, who follows farming and stock-raising on section 22, Ball Township, was born in Wayne County, Illinois, January 27, 1846. The family is of Scotch descent, and the grandfather removed at an early day from Virginia to Kentucky. Subsequently, he became a resident of Illinois, settling in Wayne County, where his remaining days were passed. His son, Joseph B. Milner, father of our subject, was born in Grayson County, Kentucky, in 1825 and was reared to manhood in Wayne County, Illinois, where he married Frances Jane Wonack (sic.) [Should read Frances Jane Womack, according to the Illinois Womacks], who was born in that county, a daughter of James Wonack (sic.), also a native of Kentucky....." Donald Power Maxwell Jr., M.D., and Jon Mark Milner are seeking direct line male Milner descendants for possible genetic genealogy testing to be done through Family Tree DNA, of Houston, Texas. The test involves inner cheek cell samples, obtained with a scraper. The testing is for genetic genealogy purposes only. The genetic markers involved would be termed junk DNA and don't involve any connection to DNA testing for medical or disease purposes.

    3. Hi,All, As a new subscriber to this list I am posting my particular family interests and looking to contact anyone with connections. Samuel Thomson M. Mary Ann Hamilton 1/5/1853 at Kirkmichael . Ayrshire from where they moved to the Wigtownshire area ending up in Stranraer. I have lots of information on the family from the date of their marriage but nothing relating to the Kirkmichael area and I would really appreciate any information which would throw some light on the reason for their marriage being held at Kirkmichael. I know that the parents of Mary Ann were Alexander Hamilton and Ann Jane Cairns who married 8/12/1829 at Dromore, County Down. Did they eventually move to Kirkmichael or was it the family of Samuel who lived there? Maybe there was another reason. Any help would be appreciated. Other families connected are Stitts, Robert and Jessie ms. Conning from Wigtown. Turner ,John and Margaret ms. Stitt Whauphill/ Stranraer. Hope these names ring a bell with someone. Bill.

    2. Joanne McLean
    3. Try finding him in 1881 Canada or 1880 US census (both online at www.familysearch.org ) . You might find his parents with him or nearby. I don't know what your access is to the 1901 US census is, but the 1901 Canadian census is online at the canada archives site. There is also an as yet incomplete (but very good) Automated census project for the Canada 1901 at http://automatedgenealogy.com/census/index.html If you don't find him anywhere, you may have to start checking obvious alternate spellings like TYLER, TITLER, or even TAYLOR. 3. Hello everyone, is anyone researching the name PONT? I am looking for information on a JOHN PONT who was born in DUNDEE around 1862, he married a girl called JANE ANN (sorry no surname), and they emigrated to New Zealand. I think they may have emigrated around the turn of the century as when they died they had been in New Zealand just over 40 years, so they probably left Scotland around 1895-1900. If anyone can help me at all with anything I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you in advance Carol in hot, sunny Sussex
