Deas means "nice" in Gaelic Gobnait Ní Leocháin Genealogy: Confusing the dead & irritating the living.
Noticing your surname interest, I thought that if you weren't aware (unlikely) of it, I should tell you that the highway leading from the south into Vancouver BC takes you through the Deas Island tunnel under the Fraser River. There must be (or have been) a small island called the Deas Island there at some time, but I do not know the origin of its name. Probably named after someone called Deas and one could find out from some authprity in the city of Vancouver, maybe even by Googling the name. Hozier A researcher at the Inverness Library sent me a copy of an article from the Inverness Advertiser [23/9/1870] written about the competition.
