They had come to Scotland from County Down. My Ancestor is James Crombie and Charlotte Forsyth. James was born c 1814 Ireland. In1851 they lived in Dalmellington/ Ayrshire. James Crombie and Charlotte (Seay) married on 24th February 1834 in Killinchy, County Down. I know of another Crombie line in Ayrshire who had also come from Ireland. Henry Crombie c1789 (son of William Crombie and Esher Campbell) and Mary Dobbie but have been unable to connect the 2 families. I know 2 people who are descended from 2 different branches of them. The other families lived near mine but the names they chose are quite different. Any help would be much appreciated. Regards Angela

Surnames: MacInnes Morrison Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/EgC.2ACE/10062.1 Message Board Post: According to the Lawson croft history, your couple were cottars in Dubh-gearraidh, Smercleit towards the southern tip of S Uist before emigrating to East Williams in 1852. He shows both of them as originating in Smercleit. There seems to me a strong possibility that she was the Margaret b. 1816 to John Morrison 1775-1866 [son of another Iain] and his wife Margaret Macleod 1782-1855 [daughter of Eoghainn Mhuilleir from Smercleit Mill]. John and Margaret had a croft identified as 414 Smercleit. The MacInnes family had what became 404 and 405 Smercleit and it would appear that Donald may have been a brother of Angus MacInnes at 404 and Finlay MacInnes at 405. If so, he was also son of an Iain [i.e. John] MacInnes. As well as Marion/Sarah/Mor, you no doubt know that there were a further 8 children born in S Uist before the family left, two of them, Mary and Margaret dying in infancy. If you want those or the families of the other folk mentioned above, let me know. Good hunting

I have the line beginning with James all the way to the children of Samuel & Rowena, plus information on their living in Iowa. I also possess the Samuel & Rowena Family Bible and an interesting story of how it came into my posession 135 years after their wedding. Please send me any iformation you may have plus give my e-mail address to any of the Calderwood family that are searching their family tree. I have been trying to find a connection between Samuel & Rowena Calderwood to my own family Calderwood/Burke from Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. My great grand parents were Andrew Calderwood of Scotland(?) his father was James and his mother was Evan(?) Andrews wife was Ellen M. Burke of PEI and her parents Michael Burke and Margaret Mahoney of Ireland. I was told all Calderwoods are related, but I can not seem to connect to Samuel & Rowena. The Bible will have to leave me if I ever can find a direct d! escendent of Samuel & Rowena. This I promised to a man In Iowa that found it in a burned out farmhouse in Red Rock Iowa (now under water I was told today) He kept the bible for nearly nearly 75 years beore his son found me searching my Calderwoods and sent it to me. It is in excellent condition and I had it rebound and the leather polished so it looks like new. It is a very large book one that needs a pedestal to hold it. I love it, but I also do not want to leave it to my family as none of them are interested in genealogy and it would probably end up in a closet. Any info or addresses you can supply will be appreciated. I am now 73 years old so I would like to do this for Samuel and Rowena--whom I have sort of adopted as my own. Thank you.
