It will be fun and probably frustrating til we find them. Hopefully, they are related to the Alexander that I am looking for. We need to find out when the marker was moved. Most of the Ritchies started out in Scotland. Does St. John's have records back that far?

The excitement comes when you confirm beyond all doubt the find. The hunt here is finding where this marker (and occupants) started out and the find may be confirming who paid to have them moved to the St. John's yard. Larry
I am researching assisted emigration from Scottish ports to NSW between 1837 and 1841 for a university project. In this period both a 'bounty' scheme and a 'government chartered' assistance scheme operated . I am seeking information from any researchers who have details of any of the emigrants on the 33 vessels shown below from Scottish ports in this period. I am particularly interested in any details on the emigrants' backgrounds in Scotland or their occupations and movements after arrival in NSW to see if there was any difference between the characteristics of the emigrants on the two schemes. I am happy to exchange any details, passenger lists etc with other researchers. Plus the church itself had no such information, - I asked. Earlier, in my response of May of this year, we thought perhaps this grave might be your Alexander. I looked when I was there, and have sent what I saw, and learned. At least you know where your Alexander is not buried now. The only new thing that I might offer is the groundskeeper did say that the Hamilton Branch of the Ontario Genealogy Society has documented as well as they could many graves in the Ancaster/Lynden/Dundas area. He said that some of the data from this info is online just recently.I have not looked there as yet. Regards, Larry

Hi to all I am researching the WRIGHT families in South Africa - in particular, looking for the ancestors of a James Nehemia WRIGHT. He was born in Scotland between 1780 and 1800. He arrived in the Cape in the early 1800's, possibly with the British Military (suspicion points towards the 72nd Seaforth Highlanders). I would appreciate feedback from any WRIGHT researchers who have come across these first names (also John Collin). Jack WRIGHT South Africa

I am researching Ewen McDonald born 19 October 1837. He is a son of ALEXANDER & MARGRATE FRASER Other siblings were HUGH born 30.10.1833, MARJORY born 21.11.1835, & DONALD born 6.2.1843. I have found HUGH & DONALD both married and still in Urquhart on the 1901 census. They do not appear on the Deaths in Scotlandspeople from 1901 to 1953 so perhaps they shifted on as well. I can find no trace of MARJORY on deaths and can't really look at marriages without a name. EWEN left SCOTLAND in 1858 and going to VICTORIA, in AUSTRALIA for 5 years and then coming to NEW ZEALAND. I wonder if MARJORY came to NEW ZEALAND or perhaps she died young. she did not come on any census under Marjory McDonald. Anyone else researching these names or can suggest anything. Kind regards Lorraine Anderton Mosgiel New Zealand
