John Sarsfield O'CONNOR born 1831 Londonderry, Ireland died 16 October 1916 in Hawley, PA. His parents Neil and Sarah O'CONNOR emigrated to Scotland and then to St. John's Canada about 1836, from there to New Orleans where the father established a jeweler's business. The senior O'CONNOR raised a company of New Orleans Rangers which he commanded under General Scott. After the Mexican war the family moved to New York City from Greenock, Scotland. John and 2 of his brothers served in the Union Army during the Civil War. Mr. O'CONNOR was first sergeant of Company F. 69th Regulars New York volunteers. After the war John become a glass cutter in White Mills, Pa. He was honored by being made Postmaster at White Mills during President Cleveland's second administration. He revolutionized glass cutting and became very famous. He built a glass cutting factory in! Paupack Falls, Hawley, Wayne Co, PA. John married Hannah MARRETT in New York in 1860. The family lived in Hawley, PA and Goshen, New York. John S. O'CONNOR died at age 85 in his home in Hawley. Surviving were four daughters Annie, wife of Timothy D. O'CONNELL of Honesdale, PA; Mary, wife of Thomas P. CUSICK of Goshen, NY; Clotlide, wife of Thomas J. BURKE of Scranton, PA and Miss Kathryn O'CONNOR, Hawley. Ten grandchildren also survived, namely Reginald, Crescentia, Evaristus and Clotilde O'CONNELL of Honesdale; Lettia and Frank CUSICK of Goshen, NY; William, John, Arthur and Mary children of deceased son Arthur E.
