    2. I too have Kennedy's that I am researching in Canada. my earliest known Kennedy is Joseph c.1817 married to a Mary Parks. They came to Canada and with one child and had two more after arrival in the 1840's The Children where Joseph, Mary, and Fergus Joseph and Mary where married in the Cumberland area of England but we think he may have come down from Scotland. When they settled in Canada it was in the area of Upper Canada later becoming the province of Ontario. If any one can help or has other info on these Kennedy's please let me know

    3. Anyone out there researching Robert William BEATTIE born 17 September 1885, 68 St James Street, Kinning Park son of Robert & Mary nee McDonald. I have him on the 1901 census living with his sister Annie & James Japp aged 15 at 174 Centre Street, Kingston, Govan. (I know his mother had died) After that I have no trace other than a photo taken in Canada probably aged late 20's. Perhaps he went to the war, What options do I have. Kind regards Lorraine NZ

    3. Stewart is one of my main researches ( a great many in Australia), which includes Kennedy (in Scotland and Canada)and Allan everywhere. I also have some Grays, Banks, and Cromartys (for example, the descendants of Mary Kennedy Banks (1836-1921) and her husband James Gray Cromarty (1811-1871). If you see any connection, please get in touch. Blake Allan, Victoria BC

So we have an international group of WADEs. We are using a US testing laboratory that can send the test kits anywhere in the world. The more people that join the project the greater the results we will achieve. If you descend from a WADE or a variant spelling such as WAID, WAIDE, McWADE, MacWADE, and MacQUAID then this project is for you. Here are some reasons for participating in the project: 1. Determine if two people are related and descended from the same ancestor. 2. Confirm your family tree. 3. Find out if others with your surname are related. 4. Prove or disprove your research or research theories. 5. Find others to whom you are related. 6. Offer clues about your ethnic origin. 7. Determine a location for further research. 8. Confirm surname variants. 9. Identify specific family units for further research. 10. Bridge gaps of lost or destroyed records. You can learn about the WADE project and genetic genealogy in general at the web site here: http://home.cfl.rr.com/wade3/ I encourage you to check out the web site and if you have any questions please let me know. Scotlandspeople list only 24 events with that surname. OSBORNE is more common, but still there are only 6,000+ events indexed with that surname. GODOLPHIN is even rarer - only 3 events since 1553! My hunch is that their parents were English and they were likely to have worshipped in an Episcopal Church. You would be best to check their registers held by the National Archives of Scotland in Edinburgh. Have you checked publications, such as 'Who Was Who'? Good luck

    3. Nancy, I'd suggest: 1) checking the 1881 and 1901 census (both online) for him in the hopes that a more precise birth place is given. In any case, note children's names as they can be clues to parents' names. 2) Find the marriage record of James & Emma - likely to be within a couple of years of the eldest child. Marriage certificate will have his father's name. 3) Off to Scotland's People site - http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/ Joanne Toronto, Canada jcmclean@sprint.ca ----- Original Message ----- From: <nancy.daniels@comcast.net> To: <SCOTLAND-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, October 09, 2004 3:00 PM Subject: [SCOTLAND] James Godolphin OSBORNE/Emma Elizabeth COUSENS > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Surnames: OSBORN, COUSENS, PUGH > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/EgC.2ACE/10158 > > Message Board Post: > > I have reason to believe that my husband's great grandfather, James Godolphin OSBORNE was born in Scotland about 1839. > > I do not know the county in Scotland and do not know how to begin to search for a record of his birth. You would need to find his baptism in the old parish registers. The OPR's of the Church of Scotland are indexed in the IGI. I ran a quick check on familysearch without success. If he was a dissenter (e.g. Episcopalian, Baptist, Free Kirk, Roman Catholic), then he is unlikely to appear in the IGI. Where did James and Emma marry? I ran a quick check on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk for their marriage - I didn't find it. Scottish marriage certificates state the names of the parents of the bride and groom. There are partial census indexes for 1841, 1851, and 1861 - but how would you know which James is your James? His middle name is unlikely to appear in a Census. Why do you believe that he may have been born in Scotland?
