Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/EgC.2ACE/2993.4659.1.1.1.2 Message Board Post: I did not read your message carefully. I am at <<bshields@pwshift.com>>. My own family tree is not wholly relevant -- my grandfather's uncle Alexander Shields (ii) married Jane Carnduff Calderwood of East Galway, NY. in 1847. She was known in our family as Great Aunt Jane. My grandfather's brother married married Jane's niece, also from E. Galway, who was also named Jane Carnduff Calderwood -- commonly called Jennie. And Robert Calderwood of Craftsbury married Agnes Shields, sister of Alexander ii. I found the retention of names to be exceptionally confusing in the Calderwood family, and a professional researcher I hired almost gave up! But I think I have it sorted out. The family to which I relate all trace back to Blackbyre farm in Fenwick parish. Blackbyre farm is on the SE side of Fenwick, just a half mile from Loudoun parish from which the Shieldses and numerous other Vermont family hail. Bruce.

I just wanted to cash in a little on the information. By the way, the Barnabas Philbrook family bible (my Ggg-father) turned up in the Philadelphia Historical Society, apparently placed there by a woman who was preparing a DAR application. It documents the Calderwood/McCurdy connection in my own family. I appreciate your forwarding my message. If June Hamil's Calderwoods have a Vermont connection, they probably also have a New York and Pittsburgh connection. I have also been in touch with a Virgie Calderwood Westcott in California who is connected as well. Thanks

My grandmother MinnieBelle Philbrook came from Vinal Haven, born in 1866 (actually, she was born in Illinois, but that is a whole other story). She always claimed to be a native of Maine! Her mother was Nancy Calderwood, whose father if I recall without reference to my notes was a McCurdy who moved up to Vinal Haven from Derry, NH. We always thought her Calderwoods were Scotch Irish, and possibly related to the Calderwood family here in Vermont to which my grandfather was connected -- but that is not demonstrated. I would be interested in what family history you have regarding the Maine Calderwoods, of whom I know very little. Bruce.
