It is quiet - but you might get some more responses there. Hatton Burn Farm is just north of Milnathort. Try this: http://www.multimap.com/ - key in Milnathort into the search box and zoom in on the circle a couple of times. Balgedie is to the south east of Milnathort on the east side of Loch Leven. The best reference book for Kinross-shire is "The Annals of Kinross-shire" - much of which is on line at: http://www.tulbol.demon.co.uk/annals1.htm The Tullibole site also mentions: "David Marshall's Kinross-shire & and its Owners, Kinross, Orwell and Portmoak. pp700. 3 vols There is only four copies of this book and they are held at Kinross Library, Perth Library, Scottish Record Office, and one privately held. The contents of this book is the result of David Marshall's research in the Kinross House Charter Room. some of the research goes back to II David. Contains assorted history and the history of 30 Kinross-shire farms their owners and etymology and genealogy research." - and lists the owners at: http://www.tulbol.demon.co.uk/kinross-shire_and_its_owners.htm You can try contacting the AK Bell library in Perth: http://www.pkc.gov.uk/library/ - (I'm not there is a Kinross library anymore!) Hatton Burn Farm is now run by "Crop Sure (Kinross)" - an agricultural merchant. I am trying to find out more about John MacDonald and Ann MacMillan who came from Harris and settled at 57 Balallan around 1830. John was a tailor, as was his son (also John). I found the death of Ann MacMillan in 1857 and found the family in subsequent census records - but I am having difficulty finding John MacDonald's death to get his parents names.

He just may be the one link that brings results!!! I find a number of "Charles Cameron" born during his reputed time of birth. The only clue we have as to where is that it seems most of Gilbert's children believe their father and uncle were from Glasgow. Charles married in England, so I am also investigating that route.... As far as their religion..not a clue. Lore has it that his mother was quite zealous in her religion, but no mention of what demomination she practiced. Plus lore adds that their father died while the boys were still young so none seemed to know what his name was. Isn't research fun!!!! Sue
