    1. Stewart-Angus and Donald
    2. virginia miller
    3. I am new to this list, but have been on the Perth and Clackmannan lists for a while and found the listers to be very helpful. I am searching for information about my great grandfather, Angus Stewart, who came to Canada in 1857 and settled in the Niagara area of Ontario. He was married to Elizabeth Mcomish just before they left Scotland and this marriage is in the IGI, as is Elizabeth's birth and her parents' marriage. Angus' birthdate is supposed to be March 8, 1827. Family wisdom had it that he was born in Dollar. His parents were Alexander Stewart and Isabella Rutherford. I have not been able to find documentation of his birth or his parents' marriage. I recently was able to access the couple's family Bible which stated that he was born in Monzie, but that has not helped. In some family papers I found wedding invitations and funeral cards with frequent mention of a Donald Stewart. His address was Maryfield, Mansion House Road, Langside, Glasgow. He should have been there in 1909 and 1902 at least, but I couldn't find him in the '91 or 1901 census on Scotlandspeople. I was hoping that ! Donald might turn out to be a brother or cousin of my Angus. Donald sent out funeral cards for two sisters, Elizabeth and Mary. By finding their deaths I learned that their parents were Alexander Stewart and Susan Cameron, living in Dollar. There were several other siblings but no Angus or Donald. It is all quite a puzzle. I am hoping that someone might be aware of this family, or offer advice on how to proceed. Regards, Virginia

    1. Help with Jackson birth
    2. Hi List Can anyone help me. I'm looking for the birth of John Jackson born around 1838 probably in the Edinburgh area. He was married in Crammond in 1858 to Jessie Wilson and the marriage certificate says his father was John Jackson (Teacher of Music) and his mother was Jane Millar. I found his father John Jackson Teacher of Music (99% sure) on the 1841 census living at 13 Hill Place with other family members but John and his mother were not listed. I've hit a brick wall with my searching and I'd appreciate any help with regard to any information. Thank you Linda

His next door neighbor is named John George! We just sent our membership application off to the Dumfries & Galloway Family History Society last week. I want to visit their shop while in town. Ken

    1. Looking for details on an Elizabeth GORDON daughter of Thomas GORDON born circa 1831.
    2. Kerry Frater
    3. Looking for details on an Elizabeth GORDON daughter of Thomas GORDON born circa 1831. My Gt Gt Grandfather George GALLOWAY married Agnes BARCLAY/BARCLEY in in 1837 in Strathmiglo and had children Kinross (all baptised in Easter Balgedie. The whole family moved to South Wales (the area we now call the Rhondda) in 1854, where George was a Farm Bailiff. Unfortunately Agnes died in 1859. George remarried in 1861 an Elizabeth GORDON in the Parish Church of Ystradyfodwg (Rhondda). The marriage certificate shows them both signing their names and at the time of the marriage Elizabeth was living in a Scottish Parish. The parish name is difficult to work out. It looks more like Ousell but I think it might be Orwell, because George had links to Orwell. Elizabeth is shown as 30 on the marriage cert. and a Widow. Her father is shown as Thomas GORDON (weaver). I am therefore presuming that GORDON is her maiden name, but it is still possible that the registrar got it wrong. George lied on the marriage cert. claiming to be 40 when he was much nearer 50. George's father was Stewart GALLOWAY (Shoemaker) If she was in Scotland whilst he lived in Wales I can only presume that he "sent" for a wife. This has happened elsewhere in the family. Usually with sisters though. So I question of GORDON is her maiden name but her father is shown as Thomas GORDON. If anyone knows of a Thomas GORDON (weaver) or Thomas BARCLAY. Based on the daughter Elizabeth being born circa 1831 I am guessing Thomas would be born about 1800 (give or take 15 years - George Barclay was nearly 70 when his last child was born!) I would love to hear from you. Regards Kerry
