Hi Martha, Two scenarios here. He could have been baptized Charles but his family called him by his middle name. Or as happened in our family, the priest said Farquhar wasn't a name and baptized him Charles. My father's name was Rex, my young brother was named Rex but baptized Reginald as the priest said Rex wasn't a person's name. An appeal to all naming experts...... Farquhar was a given name in multiple generations of a Gaspe, Quebec, Canada, McRae family, beginning with a son of Duncan & Margaret McIntosh b. c. 1777. Are there known variants? was Farquhar anglicized to something else? Charles, per chance? I'm having a problem with a Charles & a Farquhar seeming to be the same person???? - ie baptism of a Charles, 1849, but no Charles on subsequent census, no record of infant death found. A Farquhar of the right age is shown in this family on multiple census but no record of birth has been found..... I'm stumped! & hoping someone can sort me out. Martha

Hi, I'm new to Scottish research, so after googling a bit, i'm kinda looking for a bit of direction. My 4th Greatgrandfather, Alexander MACKENZIE - born Dundee, Forfarshire, Scotland. He was married to Elizabeth Louisa BASS, she was born in Ireland. They had 1 daughter that i know of, Sarah Ann, born - June 1843 NSW, Australia. Trying to find out why/when Alexander got sent to Australia, and other usual details - BMD's. I have info about Sarah and her children etc, just not her folks. Are there any scottish sites you can suggest i look for a birth date, and perhaps anywhere that might shed some light on his departure to Australia. Many Thanks, Bobby.

About Burke's Peerage Often referred to as the 'aristocracy bible', Burke's Peerage & Baronetage and Burke's Landed Gentry have, for over 175 years, recorded detailed genealogical information on over 15,000 families (some going back over 1000 years), whose members shaped the history and evolution of Britain, Ireland and North America. Popular Figures In addition to detailed lineages of peers, knights and landed gentry, over 5,000 entries relate to current personalities - actors, politicians, artists, industrialists, architects, musicians - including Lord Goldsmith, the Attorney General; Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, the chef; Sir Paul Macartney; Baron [Norman] Foster, the architect; Dame Judi Dench; Sir Ranulph Fiennes, the explorer. World Leaders There are detailed lineages of the kings and queens who ruled England and Scotland from the 9th century up to now, and of 42 US presidents and 33 UK prime ministers. But Burke's Peerage Online is much more than a database of family tree data: there are detailed - and witty - essays on Britain's 18th and 19th century prime ministers and on US Presidents; an essay in praise and support of the UK honours system; a guide to castles and stately homes in the British Isles; essays on artists and craftsmen; and many many more fascinating articles. With many family records in Burke's containing hundreds of names it may not be as difficult as you imagine finding you have some connection to British Royalty or the US Presidency; Thomas Jefferson's entry lists over 2,500 descendants and that for George Washington lists over 1,000.
