    1. [SCOTLAND] Riddell & Scoon families
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: JenniferGrant49 Surnames: Riddell, Scoon Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.scotland.general/21543/mb.ashx Message Board Post: My Gx3 grandparents were James Riddell (b. 2 Feb 1822) & Agnes Scoon (b. 1824). They were married on 26 Dec 1949 in Hawick, Roxborough, Scotland and arrived in Australia on the 28 Sep 1854 along with two daughters, Elizabeth (b. abt 1850) who was my Gx2 grandmother, and Margaret (b. abt 1853). This family all appeared on the official NSW records as arriving on the "China" with the three females' origin location listed as Howick, Roxburgh and James' origin listed as Newcastleton, Boxburghshire. I've searched Scotland's People looking for birth records for both Elizabeth & Margaret but have had no luck. Also, James and Agnes had a daughter who they also named Margaret Jane, b in 1855 in Australia. This seems strange as I can find no death record here for the Margaret who emigrated with the family but Margaret Jane, who was born in Australia, had 19 children and lived to 100 years! It would seem that James' parents could be Henry Riddell & Margaret Laing, but I don't have any supporting evidence for this. Also, Agnes' parents could be John Scoon & Elizabeth Elliott. This information has been gathered from other family trees on Ancestry. I'd be most appreciative of any information anyone out there might have and/or any suggestions as to what records I could access to find more information. Author: lissy90 Surnames: WIGLEY/MENZIES Classification: lookup Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.scotland.general/21539/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Can someone help? I'm trying to find the marriage of my Great great gran's Annie Anthony's (nee Wigley)brother Alfred Wigley to Rose Menzies. I know that Rose came from Scotland and that at least 2 of their children were born in the Dundee area. Alfred and Rose were in Portsea in 1891, Alfred being in service with the Navy from 1873 to 1906. I can't find their marriage anywhere so I assume it took place in Scotland. The possible dates I'm looking at would be anywhere from 1881 to 1888, as their first child was born then. I have a fair amount of information on the Wigley family if anyone recognises these names as being part of their family. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
