Author: prp99kj Surnames: Morton Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.scotland.general/21554/mb.ashx Message Board Post: My grandmother (now deceased) told me of her grandfather, Joseph Morton, who died in Derby in the early 1920s. She stated that he came from a family linked to shipbuilding based in Glasgow, but 'ran away' to work on the railways. He had told her he grew up at a manse in the Glasgow area. I'm afraid I know no more details, so this is a needle in a haystack. All I've found out, however, is that he is recorded as born in Peterborough, Eng., in 1851. And he was in Derby as a railway worker by 1891. I'm trying to trace any truth in what my grandmother was told - if anyone knows of anything that might validate this I would be very grateful! Would be a great site if it was available. I'm looking for my THOMSON in Aberdeen, possible St, Nicholas. I have them in 1880 census and then lose them until in Massachusetts in 1910. First 4 children born in Aberdeen up til 1908, then 2 more in MA., so I figure sometime between 1908 and 1910 they emigrated. Can't find them on immigration records. They might have come thru Canada. 1. [SCOTLAND] 1841 & 1851 census?
    2. LORI ADKINS
    3. Hello List, I am fairly new to Scottish genealogy most of my work has been done in Australia, New Zealand and England. I am not sure if Scotland has a census for 1841 and 1851 like England does. I am looking for a BURNETT FAMILY John Burnett married Sarah Thollar in 1860 in Yorkshire, ENG before moving to NZ. We cannot find John Burnett listed anywhere in England on the 41 and 51 census. If someone would be kind enough to look up the cenus for me I would be very greatful. 1841 JOHN BURNETT would be about 2 or 3 his father was CHARLES BURNETT 1851 JOHN BURNETT would be about 12 or 13 The family have told me for years that the Burnetts came from Scotland but no one knew where in Scotland. I was thrown off when I found out that John was married in Yorkshire. Thank you Kind Regards Lori
