I don't. I know the process of scotlandspeople inside out. I've been doing this for over 20 years. My point is that you can't just spend £1.20. The minimum you have to hand out is £6. Maybe that's a fair amount and maybe it's not ... Anyway - I don't enjoy conversing with someone who starts their sentence with 5 No's, so I'll withdraw from this thread. Yes, minimum spend is £6. However, once you've spent yer £1.20, you still have £4.80 left. If you want, that'll keep for 6 months. Using SP wisely, that will go a long way. Not everyone can get to New Register House. Remember, you are privel, privvli, lucky to be able to visit NRH. Folk in the States, Oz or even England don't have that option. If you only want to view one certificate it still costs £6. I know £6 isn't a lot of money, but I can get a whole days unlimited access at NRH for £10, so maybe I'm just thinking in relative terms. I know what you mean about the indexes being helpful though - I use them a lot to help give advice on the forums (particularly on Genforu Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I accept SP can be expensive. However, there are ways to use it. One can carry out pretty exhaustive searches at no cost, if you know what you're looking for. Using it in combination with IGI and other free searches, I've often managed to figure out a BMorD without spending more than 1 credit (20p). To be able then to get the image online for 5 credits (£1) seems fairly reasonable to me. I do wish SP offered an annual subscription with unlimited access though. It's a great site though for those who aren't as close to Edinburgh. I think a big improvement would be if they allowed people to pay to view single certificates, rather than having to pay for a batch of 'credits'. I'm beginning to wish I'd never added to this thread! The original question was from 2006. I added recently a comment - duh! - indexes available on SP. Gordon jumped in with what I think was a pretty nasty, uncalled for comment. It seems you maybe never read the entire conversation either Don. Burial is a personal matter, although, between 1856 and 1860 ONLY, the undertaker's details were recorded on the death certificate, along with place of burial. Most modern undertakers have very poor records of the burials, in my experience, or else they refuse public access to their company records. You would have better luck with either the church or the local authority cemetery administration, depending on when the death occurred. The death of the child might be recorded on a family gravestone, but not always. Gordon Johnson. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
