    1. Re: [SCOTLAND] The Book of Perth (index)
    2. Gordon Johnson
    3. The problem encountered was due to a missing hyphen in the URL. The correct URL is: > http://www.kinhelp.co.uk/KinHelp/genealogical-indices/gene10 Or, you can start at www.kinhelp.co.uk/ and at the homepage click on "a listing of Gordon's genealogical indices", which takes you to another page with the page link - click on that, and you find a complete list of all the dozen or so available indices. There, you click on whichever index is of interest (they cover many areas of Scotland). Happy hunting! Gordon.

My name is Ralph Bowles. I am a descendant of Samuel and Rebecca Bowles by their youngest offspring Archibald (my grandfather). The Richard Bowles you have been researching, was their first child, born in 1853. According to my information he and his wife Catherine emigrated to Australia on the Aberdeen in 1886, with their children Richard, Janet, Eleanor, William (who was the son born to them in 1884, I think) and Samuel. I think that they went on to have more children in Australia (Frederick, Edith, Ethel and Elsie). Catherine died in 1904.Richard M Bowles married again to Emily Fenwick in 1908. You have probably found out your info by now, and I may not be correct in all these details. I too am researching the Bowles, so I would appreciate hearing from you if you have any information to share. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: CynthiaClarke33 Surnames: Classification: biography Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.scotland.general/21699/mb.ashx Message Board Post: MEMORIES OF MY GRANDFATHER BY CYNTHIA LONG This book has genealogy on the Bakers, Walkers, Stacy's and Combs.(LEFT OUT CAMPBELL)There are also pictures and obituaries of the families around Hazard, Ky. http://walkerthewalker.googlepage.com/home <(link to buy) (e-mail me at)[email protected] for questions The story is about a man named John Walker who once lived in Hazard,Kentucky. His father (also John) was the Rev.John Walker who was the first baptist preacher in the area. His father fed, preached, kept up morale and entertained the entire town during the depression, then John's father died from injuries he suffered in an explosion in 1940 from a Virgina coal company while at an Ecology meeting. The town changed after his death, and WWII was brewing. John and many men went into the service, the fun was over, but the towns people started drives and helped one another. This book tells how they managed during WWII. After WWII John Jr. moves his family north to Indiana and that's where his journey begins. His journey starts with the grocery store he bought, to learning to fly a plane, and Walking the Appalachian and Jenny Wiley trail. That's only the beginning. He excavates the body of a former Presidential cabinet member of President Lincolns. When the grave is opened, the body is not there. Find out why in the book. He's invited to the White House for a tour, he had a collection of 8 Truman Scrap books with every article he could find on Truman, and it ends with the marriage of his daughter Margaret Truman Attachments: Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: mikebronner Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.scotland.general/21697/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Please forgive my somewhat uneducated question. I have largely been relying on Ancestry.com for convenient records research so far. My Scottish ancestry has been fairly easy tracable via English and Scottish census records, however, the Scots don't seem to have any census records prior to 1841. What research options does one have to get beyond that point? 2. Walter Richardson
    3. Hi Mike, It is very difficult, depending on your search area. My Richardson/Renwick ancestors ( Wlliam Richardson+Catharine Renwick) were natives of Hawick in the county of Roxburgshire in an era when registrations were scarce, possibly because of the reistration tax, but also because many records in the Borders were destroed by the Reivers who often holed up in Churches or other stout buildings when cornered. They were often burned out. There are lots of good people on this list with a lot more experience than I . They are probably aware of more sources than and possibly immigration and emmigration sources. Good Luck! Walter Richardson.
