I am familiar with the "marriage" registers of the OPRs, which were actually a register of the proclamations of banns (declaration of intent to marry). These can be incomplete (some have gone missing), some baptisms were not recorded and in addition many children were not baptised for a variety of reasons. 1. [SCOTLAND] Request For Information On Matthew McVey, Bridget O'Neill, and Patrick McVey
    2. Pat Iurilli
    3. Hi all, Can anyone help me out? I paid for access to the web site: http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk but cannot locate the records for my relatives. I am looking for the marriage record for Matthew McVey, along with his wife to be Bridget o'Neill, who eloped from Ireland to Scotland around 1880, got married in Scotland, soon after which Bridget McVey (nee O'Neill) got pregnant, and had a son named Patrick McVey, around 1881. I am also looking for a birth record for Patrick McVey. Bridget McVey (nee O'Neill) died in childbirth of Patrick McVey, and is buried somewhere in Scotland. I am also looking for a death record for Bridget O'Neill (nee O'Neill), as well as a graveyard location for her grave. Matthew McVey later returned back to Ireland with his infant son Patrick Mcvey, somewhere near the time that the baby was about a year old. I do not know where in Scotland any of this occurred. I searched on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk for the birth record for Patrick McVey, but could not find it. There were 9 birth results listed for Patrick Mcvey, between the years of 1875-1890, and I already paid to view 4 of the birth records listed for Patrick McVey, which were closest in date to 1881, but none of them were the correct person. My results were as follows: 1879 MCVEY PATRICK M FALKIRK BURGH /STIRLING 479/01 0561 Parents: John McVey, Catherine Boyle 1881 MCVEY PATRICK M DENNISTOUN GLASGOW CITY/LANARK 644/03 0865 Parents: Hugh McVey, Elizabeth Kelly 1882 MCVEY PATRICK M DENNISTOUN GLASGOW CITY/LANARK 644/03 1118 Parents: Arthur Mcvey, Helen Stewart 1882 MCVEY PATRICK M ST GILES EDINBURGH CITY/MIDLOTHIAN 685/04 0297 Parent: Margaret McVey, illegitimate I did not view the 5 earlier and later records for: 1875 MCVEY PATRICK M CAMLACHIE GLASGOW CITY/LANARK 644/02 0227 1885 MCVEY PATRICK M WEST CALDER /MIDLOTHIAN 701/00 0094 1888 MCVEY PATRICK M DENNISTOUN GLASGOW CITY/LANARK 644/03 0070 1878 MCVEY PATRICK FRANCIS M KINNING PARK GLASGOW CITY/LANARK 644/14 0984 1887 MCVEY PATRICK MORRISO M RUTHERGLEN GLASGOW CITY/LANARK 654/00 0008 The indexed search fields at that site www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk do not include the names of the parents, so they cannot be searched for to narrow a birth record down, which makes it difficult to find the birth record for a child, if the actual birth year or birth place location is not known. I could not find a marriage record between Matthew McVey and Bridget O'Neill, nor a death record for Bridget McVey (nee O'Neill). There were 4 death records listed between 1875 and 1890, and I again paid to view the following record: 1882 MCVEY BRIDGET F 0 ST GILES EDINBURGH CITY/MIDLOTHIAN 685/04 0711 but this was also the wrong person, as she died at 6 days old. Any assistance that you can provide to me would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely yours, Pat Iurilli Highland Park, NJ, USA patlionel2@yahoo.com
