Listers who may be good amateur photographers, Greetings from a gorgeous day down in New Zealand. I have just completed a book on our family history and am working on the design for the cover. I wish to incorporate two images, one of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and one of the Forth Bridge. My late wife was raised in Rosyth so one can see the association. Needless to say, the book is called 'Bridges' and the title refers to both the structures themselves, their association with our families and also the bridge between generations. It is a fairly serious effort stretching to 200+ pages etc. The book will not be published for general distribution but will be limited to family and friends. I am looking for a 'different' image of the Forth Bridge and someone who would be willing to allow me to use it in my book. By 'different' , I mean something unusual, a strange angle, a lighting difference, dawn, dusk, anything 'different' ,but still very recognisable as the Forth Bridge. I can easily get hold of the usual images of the bridge but want something to equal the unusual image I have taken of the Sydney Bridge, a silhouetted city skyline with an amazing sky backdrop. If I can find something suitable the owner of the image will be acknowledged accordingly. If you feel you can help I would be most grateful. Any image would have to be scanned to approx 150dpi and say, 6"x4". Many thanks Dave

I am trying to get further back in my tree but have reached my 3rd greatgrandfather Frederick Kennedy Hatton. >From what I have found so far, Fred was born in Scotland (no idea which county!) around 1814. At some point after, he moved to London and was a solicitor. He married Sarah Bird in April 1856 in London and died 24th February 1869. The nice thing is that the name Frederick has carried on right the way down the tree! I have looked at familysearch but understandably have come across nothing. I had previously searched Scotlands People but again didn't come up with anything. Does anyone have any ideas on where to look? Thanks in advance! Urray has NO death/burial registers at all, so your only chance of finding his death is if it appears on a gravestone. Identifying his birth is also difficult, if you don't know in advance who his parents were. The OPRs are neither complete nor comprehensive. Gordon.
Looking for detail of death or birth of Farquhar McLeay born about 1795 probably Blarnabee,Urray,Ross, dies after 1836 and before 1841 probably in or near Urray or between there and Kilmorack,,Inverness. Parents possibly Donald McLeay and Margaret? Donald possibly in 77th regiment. Elizabeth

What was his occupation on the 1871 census ? Did he travel ? I found his birth / baptism on SP . I just searched under his name (no parents names), Ross & Cromarty district Kilmuir Easter year 1838 . It gives the names of John's parents along with their parish name(or i could be completely wrong and this is just a french word i'm not familiar with). The parish is written out as gonarguelle or qonarquelle. Any ideas what this could be in Scotland? It's the third line down on the right. Any help would be appreciated! It's called the patronymic naming system and is still used in Iceland and Russia (to varying extents). The child is named after the father's forename, to which is added son (even where its a daughter) though in Iceland they would use dottir, rather than son, for a female child. I think you records the daughter's name as shown, ie as Williamson or Johnson. Not sure how the birth would be recorded. I'd guess under the child's surname, but can';t be certain. This appears to be your McLure family in 1841, with the surname rendered as McClure. You are very fortunate in that the ages have been left unchanged (the enumerator was supposed to round adult ages down to the nearest 5 year point - 0 or 5). They are in Mochram parish at this date. 1841 Census Piece: SCT1841/892 Place: Mochram -Wigtownshire Enumeration District: 4 Civil Parish: Mochrum Ecclesiastical Parish, Village or Island: Mochrum Folio: 4 Page: 3 Address: Eldrig Village Surname First name(s) Sex Age Occupation Where Born Remarks MCCLURE Alexr M 49 Joiner Wigtownshire MCCLURE Catherine F 41 Wigtownshire MCCLURE Margreat F 9 Wigtownshire MCCLURE Peter M 5 Wigtownshire MCCLURE Jannet F 3 Wigtownshire MCCLURE James M 2 Wigtownshire ------------------------------------------------------------ Gordon Johnson.
