There were only two marriages of an Alexander Johnston to a Mary Smith between 1855 and 2009. One was in 1883 and the other in 1935. Copy of response attached. You can view the actual Marriage record for a few Euros. Good luck. Frank http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/ Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Do you you know what family Effie McNicol came from? My gg.grandmother's name was Agnes (McNicol)Nicol. Claim to have come from Ayr., IGI says she was from Rutherglen. She married a miner name James Griffiths and they moved all over Lanark, Scotland. They both claimed to have come from Ayr. ~Norma~ -----Original Message----- From: scotland-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:scotland-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of gc-gateway@rootsweb.com Sent: Friday, November 12, 2010 6:03 AM To: SCOTLAND-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [SCOTLAND] Please any info on Maclarty, Mclarty, Mcclarty,McLardy family would be most welcome This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. I am interested to find out about and perhaps contact this family, and I would appreciate any advice on possible avenues. James MELVILLE (born circa early 1880s) arrived in the Far East in 1910 to begin work with Jugra Land and Carey Ltd on Carey Island near Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. He retired as Resident General Manager of that company in 1939. His wife (given names unknown) was born circa 1885. They had one daughter, Betty or Bunty, born circa 1917. I do not know whether they had any sons. When 14-year old Betty sailed to the Far East in 1931, she gave her UK address as The Red House, Ainsdale. When Betty and her mother arrived in the UK early in 1933, their intended address there was given as 12 Wilton Road, Edinburgh. I assume that James (and probably his wife) came from Scotland and that they retired to Scotland. Does anyone recognise these names? I'm particularly interested to know what happened to Bunty -- did she marry, and where did she settle? Did she have children? Love to hear from anyone who has connections to the family or who has suggestions as to how I might male further progress. Lindsay Graham Canberra, Australia

I am researching my family tree and it would seem that my family were show folk. my 2x Great grandfather was called william O'neill and he married catherine williams. My hunch is that they travelled with the codona family as on their marriage certificate the witnesses are down as william codona and mary ann codona, also I have been told that the codona family where one of the main families of the fairs in vinegarhill in glasgow, well some of my family where born in vinegarhill around that time. William and catherine had a son in bathgate in a caravan (my great grandfather) called Arthur O'neill who went on to marry sarah shufflebottom also from a travelling background. Does this ring any bells with anyone? I can't seem to get any futher back than william and catherine as I can't seem to find a birth or death certificate for them only their marriage cert which isn't great.
