    2. Chris Mahoney
    3. Am researching the BAIN, GREIG, MacKENZIE and PAGAN families which originate from Ayrshire and Ross and Cromarty and settled in New Zealand in the later part of the 19th century. The main towns connected to these families, are Locharron and Lochalsh in Ross and Cromarty, and Muirkirk in Ayrshire. The names PRIMROSE and STEWART are also connected, but not sure how at this time. My website covering the above families has further information. Take a look at http://www.chrismahoney.co.nz/ and follow the Scotland link near the top of the page. I would be interested in knowing more about these families and/or finding someone who is connected.

    3. Hi If anyone has access to the Mitchell Library in Glasgow, would they be able to check a record there for me. The record I would liked checked is for the death of William GREIG, who died 13 Feb 1880 in Locharron, Ross and Cromarty. Someone found this entry there sometime ago, but failed to provide the extra details that are listed for this entry (assuming there are any). 2. Ian & Margaret Kelly
    3. I am trying to make contact with descendants of Hugh & Rachel NICOLSON who lived in the Glenmore-Portee area of Skye in the 1800s. Hugh was born in 1821 and died in 1889. His parents were John NICOLSON & Catherine MACKAY. Hugh married Rachel MACLEAN (b.c1829) at Glenmore in 1846. Hugh and Rachel Nicolson had about 7 children going by the 1861, 1871 & 1881 Portree census. The children's names and approximate dates of birth, from the 1871 census, are: Catherine 1849, Donald 1852, John 1854, Allan 1856, John 1859, Alexander 1861, William 1864. There appear to have been two sons named John. One of them married second cousin Christy NICOLSON from Glenmore, Skye in 1879. I would like to hear from anyone with an interest in this family and would welcome suggestions re other records I can look up online. Thank you. Ian Kelly, Queensland, Australia.

    1. [SCOTLAND] John McArthur c1828 Papertrail. DNA with 3 companies, say otherwise.
    2. Edie McArthur
    3. I have been researching the McArthur family for over 32 years, have had a brick wall since that time except for the family in Tasmania and have the marriage certifcate of John and Isabella McArthur nee Stevenson in Cambuslang, Lanarkshire. On that certificate it only tells me that John McARTHUR, Farm Servant, abode, Cathcart, Renfrewshire, was 28 at the time of marriage 2 December 1856 at the Established Church of Scotland, Cambuslang. His wife was Isabella STEVENSON Farm Servant, Cathcart, Renfrewshire aged 26. Johns father was Duncan McARTHUR deceased, Farm Servant. Johns mother was Margaret McARTHUR maiden name SMITH. Doesn't say where the parents had been living. The brides parents were John Stevenson and Brides mother Christina Ormiston of Cambuslang, LKS. Witness Robert Spiers and John Stevenson. Looking for years in Renfrewshire and Lanarkshire in the census records. I nor my son, who is reasonably new to Family History, haven't been able to ascertain in the 1841 and the 1851 census which of the Johns is ours. He is not with his parents in any of the census. I have never found the baptism of John anywhere in Scotland with Duncan McArthur or Margaret Smith, plenty of Margaret's of other surnames with a son John but not ours John was not in Scotland by the 1861 census as he was in Tasmania by 31 March 1857, having left the Clyde Scotland on the new Clipper ship "Broomielaw", leaving 20th December 1856. No marriage was found for Duncan McArthur and Margaret Smith, their son born 1828, I have no day or month. I guess Johns parents were born late 1700 or early 1800. Could be somewhere in the Highlands, as our DNA locations are Caithness and Sunswrland but one also Isle of Lismore. . No sibings for John, though maybe Margaret if not married to Duncan, did married someone else and there could be DNA matches with another name. Havent got that far as yet. What we do now have though is it is becoming clear that our McArthur surname is not coming through any of three companies four of the family have tested with including FTDNA and we are waiting for our sons Big Y 700 resutls to be concluded. So far McDonald/MacDonald, MacNeill, Carmichael, Campbell are coming through strongly. it looks as if our McArthur name was a in Herited one. That is not proven at this point. We havent fond anything on the name SMITH to date in any of the DNA. I went n the Caithness list yesterday to see if I could find any MacDonalds and found three we know are matches but they were 18 yeas ago and were just paper trail then. No activity on that list so I have now come here. Hope to hear from any family McArthurs who seem to go back at least late 1700's as Johns parents but no details of either of hem. John was living in Cathcart at the time of his marriage to Isabella Stevenson. Couldnt pick him out in the 1841/1851 census Isabellas family no problem. Banns of marriage read at Cathcart, LKS marriage took place in Cambuslang LKS. Looking for namess of Farms, so I can do some research in Cathcart as well before going back in time to the Highlands.. Thanks for any helpEdie McArthurAustralia

    3. Hi again, would like to say that I trained as a registered nurse at Peel hospital,Galashiels Scotland. We had a Barbara Rosie about a year in front of me and she was a great lass, we all called her Rosie and she came from Wick. She also had relatives inNewtown St Boswells as she took me there one New Years Day. We were both on night shift and she was my senior in the children’s ward. I have no idea what there names were though. Barbara would have been born abt 1938-39, as I was born 1940. Maybe you will get something for her. 1. [SCOTLAND] Surnames ROSIE, HARRIS, NICHOLSON, HOWES & PATEL in Scotland
    2. Ian & Margaret Kelly
    3. Hi, I am trying to contact descendants of George Macaskil ROSIE, b. 1935 in Aberdeen & d. 2003 in Aberdeen. He married Margaret HARRIS in 1955. The marriage was registered in Aberdeen Southern District. Margaret was a Psychiatric Nursing Sister and a Director of the National Schizophrenia Fellowship of Scotland from 1991 to 1994. Margaret passed away in 1999. George and Margaret had a daughter, Lorraine Sinclair ROSIE in 1955. The birth was registered in Aberdeen Southern District. Lorraine married Angus NICHOLSON in 1976. The marriage was registered in Aberdeen registration district. Angus Nicholson died in 1979 aged 26. Registration district for the death was Aberdeen. Lorraine and Angus Nicholson had a son, Michael George NICHOLSON, who was born in June 1977. The birth was registered in Inverurie, Aberdeenshire. The UK electoral roll states his residence 2005 to 2010 was 52 Annand Road, Ellon, Aberdeenshire. I have no further information on Michael. After the death of Angus Nicholson, Lorraine married Graham Walter HOWES in 1994. The registration district for the marriage was Ellon, Aberdeenshire. Lorraine and Graham divorced in 2002. They had one child, a daughter, Nikki Zuleika HOWES in 1993. Registration district for the birth was Ellon. Nikki Zuleika HOWES married Karun PATEL in 2013 in registration district of Ellon. They divorced in 2016. I would be grateful to hear from anyone who has any information on any of the above people. My email is imkelly21@bigpond.com if someone prefers to contact me off list. 3. Hi Nicky, Thanks for your reply. My ancestors, and the ancestors of the Rosie family, were originally from Isle of Skye and were Nicolson/Nicholson. I have used the census a lot and found good information on it but the Rosie connection to the Nicholsons is after 1911 so no use there. I am not researching back on the Rosies before the marriage to my Nicholsons. I only want to contact some of the Rosie living descendants. I have obtained some BDM certificates from Scotlands People and found them quite useful and reasonable in price for the older certificates at about $3 in our money. The latest ones are very expensive though so won't be getting any of those. They don't give as much info as the Aussie certificates though. I have a sub to Ancestry which finishes this month and shall have to wait for another special before joining again. I have found a fair bit on Nicolsons and some Rosie stuff on Ancestry. The family trees on Ancestry are a bit of a waste of time as the people who submitted the tree rarely reply when I try to contact them. I have found a bit more Rosie info since my last Rootsweb posting so shall have to do an update. I might join a Scottish list that that is more local where Scotlands People tell me the Rosies were on BDM certificates (where the event was registered). I agree with you that it is very hot at the moment. I am thinking of emigrating to Scotland. 3. Have you tried the Census?, I think they are up to 1911. Scotland’s People works out expensive. I have Ancestry, also expensive, but you can pay monthly. You sometimes attract others who are researching same names. I am a Scot migrated here toVictoria 47 years ago, and at the moment, would love to be back there, so dashed hot. 3. Hello listers It is a long time since I posted on the Sutherland list but decided to return as I have hit a brick wall on this branch.  John MACDONALD and Jane (Jean) CLARK had the following children: William b. 1799 - Rogart John b. 1801 - Creich of Eiden Rogart Christina b. 1803Mary         b.  1803 Katherine b. 1807  All the children were born in Rogart. I have marriages and deaths but am more interested in their parents.  I cannot find a marriage, or deaths for either John or Jane (Jean).  Perhaps they had an irregular marriage. Births and deaths may be helpful.  I have searched on Scotlandspeople but have had no success, just a couple of maybes.  I would be grateful to hear from anyone who has information on John and Jane (Jean). 3. Hi folks, A few days ago put a query on this list re the ROSIE family of Scotland. So far I have not had any replies. I am not really surprised as I have never seen any traffic on this list and sometimes wonder if I am on the right list. Since my posting the other day I have obtained the 1934 wedding certificate of Margaret Macleod (Rita) NICOLSON and George ROSIE. The wedding certificate reveals that George (parents George Rosie & Jane Geddes) was a chemist and Margaret was a nurse. One of the witnesses to the wedding was John Shaw of Asylum Square, Inverness. I imagine Shaw may have worked at the Inverness District Mental Asylum and perhaps the bride and groom also worked there. The asylum’s more correct name may have been Craig Dunain Hospital. I have found, on Scotlands People, death records of all the children of George & Margaret Rosie – except for John Macintosh Rosie. So perhaps he is still alive. I would welcome any suggestion or help from fellow family history researchers as to how I may be able to track down George Rosie (if still alive) or any of his nieces and nephews. Are the latest Scottish Electoral Rolls available for viewing? Or telephone directories? Thank you, Ian Kelly, Queensland, Australia.

    1. [SCOTLAND] ROSIE family of Scotland
    2. Ian & Margaret Kelly
    3. Hi, I am researching my NICOLSON/NICHOLSON ancestors of Scotland. I have Margaret Macleod (Rita) NICOLSON (1914-1989) who married George ROSIE in 1934 in Registration District of Inverness. I am trying to contact any of their descendants. Margaret and George had four children as under: Sheena Stuart ROSIE (1934-2016): She married John James REID in 1972 in Registration District of Aberdeen. I don’t know if John Reid is still alive or not. They used to live at Lower Flat, Edinglassie Strathdon, Aberdeen Shire. I don’t know if they had any children. John Macintosh ROSIE (1934- ): He married Mary MACKENZIE in 1979 in Registration District of Wick. I cannot find any record of John’s death so he may be the only one of the four children still alive. I don’t know if they had any children. George Macaskil ROSIE (1935-2003): He married Margaret HARRIS (1936-1999) in 1955 in Registration District of Aberdeen. They used to live at 25 Tollohill Drive, Kincorth, Aberdeen. George died in 2003 and his house was sold in 2004. Margaret, a Psychiatric Nurse, was a director (1991 to 1994) of the National Schizophrenia Fellowship of Scotland. I have been told that George and Margaret had a daughter Lorraine who had a son Michael. Rona Euphemia ROSIE (1935-2011): She married Roy Alexander C REID (1931-1979) in 1960 in Registration District of Aberdeen Northern District. I have been told that Rona and Roy had two sons, Ian and David and a daughter, Morag. I would welcome any information or suggestions on the above families to enable me to contact them. The birth, death and marriage dates may not be 100% accurate as I obtained them from Scotlands People and they are registration dates. My email address is: imkelly21@bigpond.com Ian Kelly, Queensland, Australia.
