Meanwhile is anyone researching a William SHAW who left Killyleagh, Co Down and settled in Guilford, SC in the mid 1700s? HE was a revolutionary war soldier. He appears in the index to the SC DAR collection on fiche in LDS. He names his origin in his pension records. One SHAW family in Ulster arrived in 1606 with the Montgomeries, who 'planted' it. They descend from a younger son of a titled family in Scotland. This info is in Hanna "The Scotch Irish". They are also related to a prominant ANtrim family who built a castle, now apparently a hotel. SOmeone has contacted me privately about this man WIlliam who settled in South Carolina.
