The Library of Congress has placed many newspapers online under the heading Chronocling America. The URL is: http://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/search/pages/ now, for Linda: I've been reading the Crittenden Press from Marion, Kentucky since this was where a goodly number of my Scotch Irish (and other) ancestors settled. Yesterday I ran across one of the names you've mentioned recently : McAmis. Apparently a gentleman with this surname was the postmaster in Tolu, Kentucky in 1897. This newspaper has been extremely interesting and informative for me. I had never known that my grandfather attempted to elope with another woman a few years before he married my grandmother. The wannabe bride's father caught them and brought them home following which she unsuccessfully tried to commit suicide. Turns out they both married other people a few months apart in 1895. Sara
