My ancestors also came to Ontario. Their last name is Hart. I think they came from Co. Armagh, though it could have been Co. Cavan. And family memories have the Harts as coming from Scotland, though I have no proof of that. Do you find any Harts in your disc? McCaw researchers I need to tell you that I have traced my McCaw lineage coming from Isle of Bute, where the McCaws owned both south and north parts of the whole Island. They came to NI 1560 with 'The Stewarts of Ballintoy' along with a lot of other surnames. Also, there is a book 'Dalraida' which I've copied to my disc which talks about our McCaw surname. The name consists of many variants starting with Makawe, M'caw, Macaw, Maccaw, and on and on. Some records indicate it went to McKay but none that I have found for my lineage. I've got a whole disc of research I've gathered over the years which includes some of the following copies of documents: 1630 Muster Roll 1641 Muster Roll 1669 Tax Roll 1734 Census 1740 Protestant N Antrim census 1750 Registry of Deeds 1766 Religious census 1775 Wm John McCaw family history 1796 Flax Growers Bounty List 1797 McCaw Registered legal documents 1803 Census done by Dr Traill 1824 Tithe Applotment books of Ballintoy 1830 - 1839 OSM infomation 1861 Griffith's Valuation 1912 Ulster Covenant McCaw signature If you send me your snail mail address I can send you a copy of my data disc. Please send this information to me at the email address listed but in the subject line please put 'data disk' so I open it. Roy Wesley McCaw (1913-1973) and his wife Vera Muirhead (1923-)? = I have sent this to a 3rd cousin who could possibly have information on this. Will get back to you as soon as I hear back from her. McCaws/McCaa in Richmond Virginia. Any connection? = my McCaws came to Ontario but I have seen the name in Virginia. McCaw's of Bruce County, ON who were formerly in Fullerton TP, ON. My direct line stems from Daniel McCaw and Isabel McCurdy who were married, likely in Bushmills or Ballintoy before emigrating in 1849. = my McCaws came to Canada in 1839 Do I have your permission to link you up with a McCurdy who could probably help you? It is my lineage but Jim would have a lot more McCurdy information. Susan

Bill, There was a 19th century western PA Rev. William McKinney (died March 13, 1907) who, with his wife Eliza McKee, went to Alabama to work in a Reformed Presbyterian Mission. Their daughter, Lulu Jeanette McKinney, later became the Registrar at Geneva College, retiring in June, 1952 (died June 14, 1973 at about age 97). Don't know anything about when this family arrived here. On the other hand, I do know that Eliza McKee McKinney was a daughter of Robert C. McKee of the Wilkinsburg RP Church (born 1821 at Castleblaney, County Monaghan, died December 29, 1872). Joseph McKee, her grandfather, arrived with his wife and children in 1828. My line descends from John A. McKee (born 1812), oldest brother of Robert C. Hugh

Hi Marilyn, I enjoyed your story - it was the pub talk that was getting to me. A couple people claimed they were leaving yesterday (and used the f* word!!! Hey, that's MY Job, as the Belfast joke goes....) but might be still here if they haven't figured out how to get off the list. Hehehe, I love it when people insult me/us and then need help leaving <grin>. So humiliating ...... I try to remember that when getting out of control on other lists <grin>. There is no happy medium. Personally I value participants much more than I do guys who never post but are the first to complain we aren't entertaining them the right way. (It's okay to 'lurk' -- don't feel compelled to post. It can be intimidating, I know). Besides I like it when my cage rattles a little. Helps keep me awake. Hugh, Thank you so much for the tip. I have a tough time getting around anymore -- too many surgeries -- and the trip to Pittsburgh can be costly. Even though it's only from Erie, it would have to include a couple of nights in motels to be of any real use. I'll get down there, hopefully sometime this year. But this really helps. The McKinney family were strong Presbyterians -- you'll find a couple of noted church leaders in Pa. named McKinney, but they were not part of my direct line unless, of course, they're from the generation who came over before 1822 (and there were many). I will explore that site thoroughly. Thank you again. I've been on this site, now, for quite a few years, and I absolutely love it, even when it gets slightly off track. For one thing, I know it won't last long. Not with Linda at the helm. Bill McKinney Erie -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of H. It appeared in the Reformed and Covenanter newsletter. Most copies of the newsletter, from 1864 to 1895 are in the online archives of the RP Seminary <http://www.rparchives.org/refprescov.html>. Didn't see anything specific to the congregation, but I also didn't go beyond the first page of links. Gosh there must be people on this list who think they are really something. It's all too American for me so I am going to unsubscribe. I think a few folk need to get a life if they email you privately to complain. Linda you do a great job and it has been great knowing you. Hi folks, The RTE (Irish TV) did a two part program on the history of the Irish using DNA (more below). It will be released on DVD. I received the following announcement today. You can also go here : http://www.rte.ie/tv/bloodoftheirish/ and download program notes (free). Youtube has excerpts. How to get to Youtube? Okay, grandma, you type in www.google.com and then Youtube Blood of the Irish or visit www.youtube.com ! I just checked Amazon and don't see it listed for sale there. That'd increase the number of copies they'd sale as who wants to wait for it to come from Dublin??? (Disclaimers: I do not own the DVD to be released March 12 as it is March 10th and I have not watched the TV series, being as I live in the USA, and ... I got no Y chromosome, my eyes are grey blue, I have no idea what the shape of my head is, my hair is light brown, faded out from my great grandpa Kelly -- a typical Irishman with black hair and blue grey eyes and beyond that my paternal ancestors would appear to be very early arriving Frisians to England (shot arrows at the Romans) so watch out, they're gone, but we're not ). Broadcaster Diarmuid Gavin travels to the heart of Africa and beyond in a quest to find the very origins of the Irish people. Who are the Irish and whose blood flows in our veins? A landmark series for RTÉ, Blood of the Irish explores the most fundamental questions about the Irish population; who were the first people to settle here and where did they come from? Why are the oldest Irish human remains less than 10,000 years old when just 100 kms away in Britain, human traces go back 700,000 years? What are the origins of the darker looks of western Ireland and what are the particular genetic stories of Donegal and Clare? Produced by Crossing the Line Films, a veteran production company skilled at documentaries exploring history, science and adventure, the documentary is full of spectacular landscapes, cutting edge DNA studies, computer graphics, latest archaeology and prominent academic contributors from Trinity College Dublin. Hi folks, I hope you all are familar with Roots TV. It is a free website with video on genealogy. Recently the owners announced it was too expensive to continue, but due to an overwhelming outcry (and the agreement of users that they'd tolerate commercials to keep it), this treasure trove of 700 and growing videos will stay on line. If you haven't used it, consider doing so. I always say (alas, not jokingly) that one big difference I have noted between professional genealogists and amateurs is that the pros are always learning and the amateurs think they already know it all. Chances are you can't afford hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of dollars to solve one of your many problems, but luckily there is a cheaper alternative: plugging in the ol' thinking cap. This also delays the onset of Alzheimers (but doesn't seem to help much with fitness goals) besides protecting the family fortunes. To read Dick Eastman's announcement see http://blog.eogn.com/eastmans_online_genealogy/2010/03/rootstelevisioncom-will-survive.html Or go here to the website: http://rootstelevision.com/ Click on "Please Read" to read the announcement. How about a simple hexagon - the six-sided shape of the "Giant's Causeway" stones? They are on the North Antrim coast and similar ones are found 25 miles away in Scotland (Staffa?). A true Scotch-Irish connection. A "U.S." inside would satisfy both the American and Ulster-Scot/Scotch-Irish links. The six sides also represent the "Wee Six" counties of today's Northern Ireland. If this is too political then add bars on 3 sides for the 9 counties of ancient Ulster. Jim Blair London, Ontario, Canada
