    1. RE: [SCOT-DNA] test kit

    3. Not sure if the 37 marker is of use. My understanding is that these markers are the first to mutate and only reliable for close matches. I have 115 matches, (most at a genetic distance of two) but none at 37 markers. All are almost entirely Scottish or boarder area. One of my closest matches is to a Robertson at 23/25, at 37 markers it came out at a 30/37 match, which I understand is quite acceptable between individuals who shared an ancestor about 800 years ago!! I also notice Ken, your "Scottish" DNA profile, but I guess we are not a close match. I have a Davenport (Crawford) near match, along with a number of other Davenports. Please don't ask what part of Scotland my family came from as my family was from Gloucestershire, going back to at least 1550. There is a connection with Northumberland and a Rampant Lion in the Roberts coat of Arms .............but I guess some families travelled a fair distance. Just go to familytreedna website and it will give options. If you think you're going to pursue this dna thing all the way, do the 37 marker test. I'm learning how to use all of this information so I'm not a good resource. -----Original Message----- From: walter [mailto:walter@macarthurnet.com] Sent: Sunday, December 18, 2005 1:07 PM To: SCOT-DNA-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [SCOT-DNA] test kit I have been a member of this group for quite some time. I have requested a kit in the past and it was never received. I am unable to find information on requesting another kit. Can someone furnish a link so that I might request the kit and ensure the SCOT-DNA group has access to the results? My understanding is that there is a bit of a discount ordering through the SCOT-DNA a group as opposed to ordering directly from FTDNA. Do I want the 25 marker or the 37 marker?
