As the article on Tanistry was quoted from Encyclopedia Britannica; it would naturally refer to James by his English /British Title "James I, " rather than his Scottish title "James VI.." Further, as it refers to "the English land system ," I would think that the King of England, rather than the King of Scotland would have approved it.(even 'tho they're the same person).
