    1. GA/SC land grants
    2. DR KEVAN C CRAWFORD
    3. For those that responded to my query about the GA/SC land grants along the Tugalo River, I committed to posting any additional information I could find. A few days ago I found some good background info in the GA jurisdiction prior to 1787. Some of you may already have this info. However, for those who do not have it: The info was placed on the web 1 Dec 1998 by the GA Dept of Archives and History at the addresses: home page-http://www.sos.state.ga.us/Archives/ grant guide-http://www.sos.state.ga.us/Archives/rs/land.htm details-http://www.sos.state.ga.us/Archives/rs/gblg.htm There are transcribed text examples of a limited number of grant applications and awards which show the type of info contained on some of the grant classifications. However, no mention is made of GA changing county jurisdiction boundaries nor is any mention made of the Treaty of Beaufort when GA formally recognized that the land east of the Tugalo was to be SC jurisdiction. Nevertheless, those administrative changes are part of the governmental record. For those specifically interested in GA grants east of the Tugalo, a good high profile example can be found in the published literature. Any reasonably detailed biography of Ben Cleveland will describe the administrative procedures which non-Georgia residents followed for GA grant application and the subsequent SC regranting actions in land courts. In any case, a thorough reading of all the material at the GA Archives site will provide a solid background foundation for early land research in this region.
