    1. Questions about the county and some names
    2. Hi all, I am in search of information on my great grandfather. His name is Elias Richard HOLMES. He was born in Ga abt 1868 and d. 4 Sep 1914. E. Richard HOLMES married Lucy A. STONE (daughter of Robert and Susan Harbin STONE) bef. 1899. E. Richard and Lucy Stone HOLMES had the following children: Ida Agatha (my grandmother.. who married Horace L. GILBERT in Anderson County in 1919), Susan A. (who married John TURNER), R.B, Rosser, Mary J., and Roy HOLMES - all born in Oconee County. I know that his wife Lucy A. STONE was of this county and I have gone to census records of Georgia and found that Elias Richard was the son of Hiram R. and Mary J. HOLMES. Mary J. (E. Richard's mother) lived with E. Richard and his family in 1910 and I assume she also passed away about the same time that her son did. Elias Richard also bought 56 acres of land from a T. D. POORE on 21 Nov 1907. His land was still under mortgage at the time of his death. A list of bills shows that money had to be paid to the KEOWEE COURIER. The title to real estate says that the land was in what T. D. POORE called his "Pitts lands". The title also states that T.D. POORE sold Lot #2 to a J. H. BARNETT, Lot #7 was the lands of DUNLAP, and that his "Pitts Lands" were made for him by C. C. MEYERS on March 16, 1904. I am assuming that this land was in the Tugaloo District as reported on the census records. My questions are: 1) Was the Keowee Courier the newspaper of the area around 1914? I am hoping to find more info on Elias Richard HOLMES parents from maybe an obituary and one on his mother Mary J. HOLMES. 2) Does anyone know where this land would be located by the descriptions above? and 3) Does anyone recognize any of the mentioned names? Thank you so much! Jennifer Gilbert Gibson
