I have been searching for the parents and kin of my ancestor Roland Jefferson Shelton, b. 1815 in SC. He was married 27 Mar 1998 in Union Co., SC to Elizabeth Anderson, daughter of Elijah Anderson, probably also of Union Co. Roland and Elizabeth had two sons, Theodore R. and Knight S., before leaving for SC between 1837 and 1840 for Ala. where a third son, Thadeous was born. It seems likely that Roland's father would be listed in the 1820 SC Census. I found the following Sheltons. Name County Males under 10 yrs old Aaron Pend 1 Eqilly(Gilly?) Edge 0 George Green 0 James Laur 0 John Green 2 John Union 3 Joseph Pend 0 Kiziah Pend 0 Samuel Union 0 Samuel Newb 0 Samuel Fairf 2 Thomas Fairf 3 William Fairf 0 Since my Roland was under 10 years old, the list shortens to: Aaron(Pendleton) 1 John(Greenville) 2 John(Union) 3 Samuel(Fairfield) 2 Thomas(Fairfield) 3 It seems likely that Samuel and Thomas of Fairfield Co, are the sons of David Shelton b: 1750 in Albermarle County, Virginia d: 1820 in Fairfield County, South Carolina. It also seems likely that the Samuel and the John listed in Union Co., are the son and the Samuel Shelton b: Unknown in Virginia d: 1826 in Union, South Carolina. This Samuel married Sarah Sims b: 1764 d: November 24, 1822, and was a brother to the above David (the Samuel, Newberry Co., is possibly also a son of this Samuel??). So, the odds are 8 out of 11 that my Roland J. Shelton is a descendant(grandson?) of one of these two brothers, David and Samuel. Any information you could supply that would help me tie my Roland J.
