Hello Everyone, I am looking for any information on James Dulaney BOWEN and Elizabeth Betsey LAKE. James Bowen married Elizabeth Lake prior to 1836 somewhere in South Carolina. I feel very strongly that it was in Newberry County because of the large concentration of Lakes in the 1830 and 1840 Newberry County Census. James was born abt 1811 and Elizabeth was born abt 1812, both in South Carolina. They had five children who were also born in SC. The oldest was William Elisha who was born abt 1836. They moved to Pontotoc County Mississippi between 1848 and 1851. I know this because they had a son born in 1848 in SC and a daughter born in 1851 in MS. The first record I can find of them anywhere is in the 1860 Pontotoc County census. To Susan Johanson: Do you have any information on the Elijah Bowen from the 1850 Anderson County SC census?
