Dear Cousins, 60 years ago this week, amidst the dark and uncertain waning days of 1939, King George VI broadcast to the British Empire and the Free World these words, the composition of the hitherto-obscure poet Louise Haskins: I said to the man who stood at the Gate of the Year, `Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown.' And he replied, `Go out into the darkness, and put your hand into the Hand of God. That shall be to you better than light, and safer than a known way.' The King added: `May that Almighty Hand guide and uphold us all.'.......... That His Hand continue to guide and uphold us, and each of us, is the wish and prayer of your cousin and friend, Cliff Fiveash Listowner
