Does anyone have any information about Rev. Elijah Pierce LAKE of the Newberry Dist. SC? I have a Sarah LAKE age 15 who was in the household of my ancestor John Baylis CLARKE, Jr and his family in the Anderson, SC 1850 census. Individual: Clark, John County/State: Anderson Dist., SC Location: Eastern Sub Division Page #: 251 Year: 1850 J. B. Clarke, Junr, 26, M, Taylor, 1200, b SC Martha J. (or I.), 22, F, b SC John H., 5, M, b SC, twin William A., 5, M, b SC twin Frances B., 3, F, b SC Elias J., 2/12, M, b SC Elijah Bowen, 16, M, apprentice, b SC Sarah Lake, 15, F, b SC Bunnie Gilmer provided me with the name of Sarah's father through a newspaper extract from a book. His name was Elijah Pierce LAKE There is an Elijah LAKE in the 1800, 1820, and 1850 census for Newberry Dist. John CLARKE named his third son Elias LAKE CLARKE I am interested in finding the connection between Elijah LAKE of Newberry Co. SC and John CLARKE of Anderson, SC. Were they related or just friends? My father, Robert LAKE CLARK inherited the middle name of LAKE. He told me that it came from a preacher. So I know this has to be the right man. Elijah LAKE might be a clue in finding the ancestry of my CLARKES of Anderson Co. SC. Any information about the LAKES and a CLARKE connection with Newberry Co will be appreciated. I'd love to be able to solve this mystery. Susan -- Susan C.
