Can anyone tell me who the James HOGG is mentioned in this plat in 1762? I know both a John and Joseph HOGG were in Craven/Newberry Dist. as early as 1767/68, but who is this James? Pursuant to a precept from under the hand and seal of ? the 6th day of July 1762 AD I have admeasured and laid out to James Hoge a plantation or tract of land ? 200 acres in the fork between the Broad and Saluda Rivers lying and being on the branch of the Saluda River and known by the name of Bush Creek and is bounded southeast on land laid out to Jacob Brooks and on the other sides vacant land and hath such shape and form and marks as the above plat represents.
