Jerry, I have never been able to find an early Hannah Cleland unless she is the sister of James and Robert on 1790 Census in Newberry. However, 1720 would even be too early to be their sister. There seems to be 3 lines of early Clelands in SC. One from the Charleston area which I researched pretty thoroughly, one from Beauford area and mine from Newberry. I have been unable to make a connection between the 3 families. That is the break-through I am looking for ... I noticed on the Cleland forum where someone suggested Hannah herself may have been an immigrant. That's quite possible. The Scotch-Irish began immigrating from Ulster in the early 1700s. I suspect my progenitor James Crumley, although a Quaker, was among that early first or second wave of Scotch-Irish. My guess of ca1720 for Hannah's birth year is just an extrapolation based on 20 years per generation. She could have been a decade or so older that that and could well have immigrated herself with other members of her family.
