    3. Alabama started keeping death records in the early 1900's. Before that the death records were filed in the courthouses. They are sketchy because they were turned in by the doctors and some people died at home without a doctor but in earlier times this was the way it was done in Alabama. -----Original Message----- From: Margie Goodwin <MKingG@webtv.net> To: SCNEWBER-L@rootsweb.com <SCNEWBER-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Saturday, May 05, 2001 4:00 PM Subject: Re: [SCNEWBERRY] Newberry County Vital Records I've never heard of a County having Death Certificates. Not sure about S.C. but in Alabama you get them from the State Heath Department and theres something called the Death Index you can look through to find their names, the roll and death number. Then you mail for it or go to one of the Archives here that has the death certificates on microfilm. Just thought Id mention it. S.C. may be different. ==== SCNEWBER Mailing List ==== ============================== Search over 1 Billion names at Ancestry.com! http://www.ancestry.com/rd/rwlist1.asp
