    3. Hi Everyone, I've not ordered a death certificate from SC but have a few questions. On another list, several people were talking about death certificates and they said unless you can prove you are a sibling, parent or child of the deceased, it is almost impossible to get any information. Has anyone encountered this type of situation? Most of my research has been in NC and Georgia and getting copies of the death certificates from these two states was very simple; send in your check and they send you a certified copy of the actual certificate. Does anyone know if there is a Death Index available for SC? Many of the larger libraries in Georgia have ones for that state. Would appreciate any imput for future references. I need to request death certificates for 2 of my great-grandfathers. They both died after 1920. Is it possible to request a search for 10 years from the county vital records department? Stacey C. 3. After 50 years, the Dept of Health & Enviromental Control releases the death certificates to the SC State Archives. Anyone can get a copy and if you go out there, you can get it right then and there at 50 cents apiece if you do it yourself. I know because I have done that.
