I found an old post on Newberry Queries in 1997 from Mary Mitchell Clarke, who was trying to find information on Edmund Harper Mitchell (b. 1798 in Amelia VA, d.1830-1840). She said that he was the son of Mary Ann (Polly) Craddock and James C. Mitchell. She said that James died in VA in 1802, and Polly went to live with her mother, Ann Elmore Craddock Saxon in Laurens Dist (or Co)., SC. She also said that in 1844, Polly is shown as deceased, and Edmund is shown as her child. She can find Edmund Mitchell in 1830 Newberry Co. Census with 2 boys under the age of 5, but not on the 1840 census. She feels he was married about 1823. She said that there was also a Thomas Mitchell (his brother) on the 1829 Laurens Co. Census. My ancestor, Thomas Elmore Craddock, was the brother to Mary Ann (Polly) Craddock Mitchell. Would love for anyone who could give me any clues as to finding out more about these folks... or how I might contact Mary Mitchell Clarke!
