    2. Hi, It's me again Jo Anne Cooper, first I want to thank all the quick responses I had reference the Draper Manuscripts and John Adam Summer. Second, I want all to know I goofed when I stated that George L. Summer wrote the Annals of Newberry. The Annuals of Newberry in two Parts was written by John Belton O'Neall and John A Chapman. George L. Summer wrote "The Newberry County, South Carolina Historical And Genealogical Annals". I was lucky enough to receive an e-mail from an unknown cousin. Isn't this site wonderful. 2. Hi, My name is Jo Anne Cooper and I am trying to research the John (Hans) Adam Summer line. The info I have came out of the 1850 Lexington Cty Census as well as The Annuls of Newberry by George L. Summer and other articles. I am specifically looking for any information as to where I can locate the "THE DRAPER MANUSCRIPTS" which is mentioned in a newspaper (unknown) article titled "Smith - It's Not a Common Family" written by Lee R. Gandee. I believe the background information Mr. Gandee used to write the article on the SMITHS was derived from the book written by E.M. Smith, "A Historical and Genealogical Record of the Henry Smith and Davis Hallman Families of Lexington County, S. C. 1951. Any info and help would by truly appreciated. Jo Anne Cooper

    3. I have quite a few Newberry Summers (that's Summer--without the 's') in my database. Mary was a very prevalent name but I have no reference of any who married a Hunter. Do you know if she was from Newberry? Since I have quite a few Marys that I do not have husband names for, I can't be sure I do not have her. I have the same problem with my John Summers. Hopefully, someone else has this information. If so, I hope they will post the information to the whole list. Knowing the names of spouses would really help me to sort all these Summers out. 1. Re: [SCNEWBER] Wilsons of Newberry
    2. Don & Taxi Breithaupt
    3. Marie...I was somewhat stunned when I got your e-mail. I have been up against a brick wall for 2 years trying to sort out the Wilsons & Caldwells of Newberry District. Even though I have steadily chipped away & make some progress, I just can't seem to break through. It looks like you have a cemetery book. If yes, where did you get it? Mary Caldwell has been just as elusive as John Wilson for me. I got her last name from the death certificate of her daughter, Sarah Wilson Mount. It may not be correct, but so far, that is all I have to go on as I have been completely unable to locate a marriage record. According to the 1850 Marshall Co., TN census, Mary was born in 1791 in SC. After the most tedious search imaginable, I finally found one Mary Caldwell, daughter of Robert Caldwell, who was born in 1791 in SC. But she married someone named Read. Since I have been unable to find another Mary Caldwell in SC born in 1791, I have been working on a theory that her 1st husband died young & they had no children. Then she married John Wilson probably about 1817-1818, as their 1st child was born in 1819. I'm going to study the information you sent & see what I can put together from it. The probate record was very interesting as I believe I am a cousin to the Spences. The family story is that when John & Mary Wilson left Newberry in 1828, they accompanied 3 widows & their families on the trip to TN. The names were Montgomery, Fleming & Spence. The Wilsons stayed very close to the Montgomery's in TN & I believe they were very close kin. I'm going to try & get to Newberry Co. before the year ends. How was doing research there. THANKS...Don Les & Marie Reasonover wrote: > Hi there! > > I am not sure I can be of help to you....But my husband's Caldwell's were in > Newberry Co. around this time period....This past summer I went to SC and > dug and dug and still can not sort out all those Caldwell's.....But perhaps > these notes from my research can help you some...First it is a true fact > that both families were Associated Reform Presbyterians......Where you find > the Wilsons you find the Caldwells...So the following just might help you > somehow.. > 1.
