Greetings, Did NATHAN DAVIS come to LAUDERDALE COUNTY AL from NEWBERRY COUNTY SC? I have for many years been researching my gr gr grandfather NATHAN DAVIS (1786 - ?) who's son was named LEVI FOWLER DAVIS (1819 - 1888) NATHAN DAVIS was first found by this researcher in LAUDERDALE COUNTY ALABAMA. NATHAN DAVIS was in Lauderdale Co. from about 1821 until about 1842, when he moved to DESOTO COUNTY, MS. Family legend has NATHAN DAVIS coming from South Carolina, but I have never been able to locate the place of his birth nor who his parents were. I offer the following information in hopes of finding additional information about NATHAN DAVIS. Nathan was first married to EMILY FOWLER.. EMILY FOWLER was the child of MARTHA ODELL (DUCKETT) FOWLER and LEVI FOWLER, b 6 May, 1769, d 17 Apr., 1819 in Newberry Co., SC MARTHA ODELL (DUCKETT) FOWLER came to Lauderdale County Alabama with her two daughters, EMILY, NANCY, her son ELIJAH and her son-in-law NATHAN. EMILY FOWLER DAVIS died about 1819 at the birth or complications from the birth of her son LEVI FOWLER DAVIS. Emily's mother, MARTHA FOWLER and Nathan's 2nd wife EMILY McALUSTER (McALLISTER) raised LEVI FOWLER DAVIS. LEVI FOWLER DAVIS married NANCY GERMAN (JARMAN, GARMAN) in Monroe County Mississippi in 1841. NANCY GERMAN was the daughter of JOSEPH (JOE) GERMAN and VIRGINIA (JENNY) (MCCANDLESS) GERMAN. MARTHA ODELL (DUCKETT) FOWLER has a headstone in the Wesley Chapel Methodist church cemetery in Lauderdale Co. Alabama, which says: MARTHA O. FOWLER, wife of LEVI FOWLER and gives her birthdate as 6 May 1769 and her death date 11 July 1841. There is no headstone for LEVI FOWLER in this cemetery. If anyone can offer additional information, it would be appreciated. Bob Davis 13117A NW 8th Ave. Vancouver, WA. 98685 (360) 574-1624

I apologize if you have received this message more than once but I am sending to all the lists I belong. During the war years, meny men served in reserve units. I have built a site of all sucj ubits I cab find, most with rosters of the men who served. I have built a web site at http://www.geocities.com/screbels_1864/SC_Militia.html with some data about the troops (some more than others) and wish to have more. I have some battle and field assingments. If you have data on any of these units and/or the men (and boys) who served, I would love to hear from you. I would love to know what county each was raised from. They have generally been over looked by researchers but every county contributed to these units. If you send data, let me know whether you wish for me to add your email to the page or not (your choice). Anyway, take a look and honor thier service on this Memorial Day. W A "Bil" Brasington PS. The 1864 units (my special interest) is included on the above link and can also be reached at http://freeweb.pdq.net/Bil_Brasington/SeedCorn.htm To steal from one person is plagiarism. To steal from many is research. Why couldn't I have had one paper "pack rat" ancestor? ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com
This Church's name was The Baptist Church of Christ of Upper Duncans Creek, later known as Langston Baptist Church. There is a microfilm available which contains the minutes of this Church from 1832 to 1840, a six year gap, and then 1846 to 1888. Sunday school records are also in this film from 1868 to 1899. This film is available on an inter library loan basis from: Baptist Historical Collection Furman University Library 3300 Poinsett Hwy. Greenville, SC 29613-0600 Get ready for some very hard reading! If you borrow this film they will allow you some two weeks with it and believe me, you will need it. The writing is not very good in places and the data appears to be scattered about as if the book were apart when it was copied. You just have to be real careful that you don't make erroneous date assumptions. I learned more from that film about some aspects of my family than I have from anywhere else so far. Now, I need some help from some of you in regards to this same Church. Last summer I visited this Church's cemetery and found the markers of my ancestors in a terrible disarray. Upon speaking to the pastor, I learned that about 1960 someone who "had one too many" drove through this cemetery and knocked many of the markers over and dragged them about. I would very much like to restore these to their original locations THIS SUMMER. I am about 60% sure that I know where they go, BUT I would like to see a picture maybe someone took of this cemetery to help me be sure. I do NOT need to be able to read the names, just see the arrangement of the markers, as they are different sizes. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. I forwarded the queries regarding Kinard/Counts to one of my Counts cousins. Here is her reply. Had this in my files. Death and obituary notices from the Southern Christian Advocate 1867-1878 "Gen Henry Harrison Kinard was born 29 March 1806 and died 17 June 1869. He was a native of Newberry District, SC.....On 20 Feb 1827, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary A. Counts......In 1851 he sustained the loss of the companion of his youth, and in the following year was happily married to Miss Louisa C. Counts...." Also, Eve Koon (wife of Martin Kinard and mother of Gen. Henry H. Kinard) was also the second wife of John Counts, son of the patriot, who first married Elizabeth Eichelberger.
Probate I had to write directly to the courthouse, and I don't know the address look in "The Handy Book", and request copies. However, I had first looked up at LDS the book and pages I needed copied. phuffman@earthlink.net SCNEWBER-D-request@rootsweb.com wrote: > Subject: > > SCNEWBER-D Digest Volume 00 : Issue 43 > > Today's Topics: > #1 [SCNEWBER] Fulmers of Newberry Cou [William Fulmer <wfulmer@hbs.edu>] > #2 [SCNEWBER] Re: Morris/Waites [SkyVine@aol.com] > #3 Re: [SCNEWBER] SMITH - GRUBER CONN [Waymon Herridge <Cherrew@swbell.ne] > #4 Re: [SCNEWBER] Re: John M. Debi, I may be able to help you. I have both John Drayton Smith and his grandson, Drayton Edgeworth Smith, b. 1904 in my database. I do not have birth or death dates for John Drayton. His wife, Catherine Louise Summer, b. 1840 was the daughter of Jacob Summer, 1817-1880, and Elizabeth Kinard, 1816-1887. Please let me know if this helpful to you as I can provide names of John Drayton's children and grandchildren, if you need them. I am looking for information on Peter A. and Mary Fulmer who show up in the 1830 and 1840 census living in Newberry County. In late 1846 they and seven children moved to Lauderdale County, AL and show up there in the 1850 census. There children are as follows: John (SC--1830) Mary Elizabeth (SC--1832) Carroline (SC--1834) Sarah (SC--1837) Granville (SC--1839) Francis (SC--1841) Louisa (SC--1844) Four more children were born in Alabama: James (AL--1847) William Calvin (AL--1849) Emmaline (AL--1852) Thomas (AL--1857) I am particularly interested in any information about Peter and Mary's ancestors and where they actually lived. Any help will be most appreciated. Bill Fulmer
