    2. Rebecca Davis
    3. Regarding the offer to do look-ups in the Summer book: I had a major email crash this morning (5-28) and have lost all incoming unopened mail. This includes any requests you may have sent me along with the last few digest mail lists from Newberry County. If you haven't heard back from me as of Sunday, 5-28, please email me your requests for look-ups and bear with me!!!!! Becky Davis rdavis@peoplepc.com

    1. Re: [SCNEWBERRY] Summer Book Look-ups/Thompson
    2. I'm relying on memory here as most of my stuff is in storage. Joseph "Tanner" Thompson was, I presume, a leather tanner, hence the nickname. I know he had a son Joseph, Jr. In some notes I have somewhere, I recall I have some info on him, his wife's name and some of the children. Believe wife was named Ann. Joseph moved with the Quaker migration from the south to Clinton Co., Ohio, where he left a will. I have a copy of the abstract--also in storage. There is also some information about him in Annals of Newberry by John Belton O'Neal. I have a copy of the book (guess where?) and there is a bit of info on Joseph in there. I have a hunch that he was a Quaker although there is nothing about him in Quaker records in Newberry. That, of itself, doesn't mean anything since a good bit of Bush River Monthly Meeting Quaker records are lost. Whether he was or not, he was very close to the Quaker Community and I believe some of his children married Quaker. I descend from half of old Newberry--a great number of German immigrants into Newberry. And then, oddly, out of the blue, this is where my Quaker family went at about the same time as the influx of German immigrants. It makes a lot of my research so convenient. Give my memory a jog in a few weeks and I will check out what I have. My memory is really quite exceptional but as my stuff has been in storage 8 months, I've told so many people I had info in storage, I haven't a clue who they were unless they remind me. DJ

    3. I found this book to very helpful with my Summer ancestors. I spoke to one of George Leland Summer's descendants who lives near Pomaria, SC who has done a lot of work on the Summer family and he expressed that he feels that the Summer family information is fairly accurate. I did find some inaccuracies regarding my Eichelberger ancestors. But overall I'm very impressed that he was able to amass so much information and keep up with it all (without a computer!). The German immigrants who settled in this area seemed to be such a tight-knit group and for the most part, appeared to stay put for the first 100 years or so. They seemed to marry pretty much within their own group. I get so lost sometimes just trying to straighten out all my John Summers (27 at last count!) and Mary Summers. I recently read Brett Butler's autobiography and she made the statement, "I'm so Southern, I'm related to myself", and I really can identify with that now. 3. Rebecca, Thanks so much for the offer. That's very generous. I have info about one of my lines from the book, but not all of them. What has been your (or anyone else's) experience with the accuracy with what's in the book? He was not terribly accurate with the information he printed on my Gilbert line. Thanks. 1. [SCNEWBERRY] Kirkland-Truesdale Connections
    2. Nancy Parr
    3. Good Evening, Please excuse my 'cross-sending' the message to several lists in one mailing. My dilima is simple. In the past several weeks, I posted a query reguarding the family of Richard Rowland Kirkland, son of John A and Mary Vaughn Kirkland of Camden, Kershaw Co., SC. I posted this information to several lists. Someone contacted me because the Kirkland families had married into their Truesdale (spellign may be off) families. Could these persons please contact me again?? I'm using a different email program and cannot get this one to import my old emails into it and I seem to have lost some of the emails from the past month or so. I believe several people responded to my query and one has a web site but I can no longer find that information. I have some new information and want to share it with others researching these families. Regards, Nancy E Parr
