Bonnie, Thank you for your support :) Rootsweb is not the ones you need to be mad at though, they will give out accounts to any one. The web site is NOT gone, it is STILL up at two locations now, the old rootsweb and also the new site which will cover ALL of the state of SC, and ALL counties. The Pickens and Newberry are up and we are assigning coordinators for the other counties. If anyone has an interest in helping with this NON PROFIT group effort just contact me via howdycuzin@aol.com. ALL the work is there and ALL transcribers and volunteers are still working hard to have ALL the census up by Christmas :) I have delayed my trip this week to take care of the stupid boards that have been totally messed up as of last night. (thats a WHOLE 'nuther issue though...and I'm getting it solved) Pickens Web Address: http://www.scgenealogy.com/pickens/ Newberry Web Address: http://www.scgenealogy.com/newberry/ Keep ya'lls heads up 'cuz SCGenealogy.com is on its way, FREE to ALL researchers, like before, just bigger and better!!!! You have my word on it! Say a prayer for me, Im trying to learn CGI Scripts tonight and I do not have a clue LOL.... I think Ancestory has gone crazy! In their newsletter they invite you to visit sites only to tell you you can't have access unless you purchase one of their "many" subscriptions. They keep pushing "census" subscriptions that arn't even near completion! What happened to the good old days when you purchased "access" to it all? Prob. hired some new "hotshot"!!!! -----Original Message----- From: Kifle Tesfamariam Tewelde <ktewelde@interbaun.com> To: SCNEWBER-L@rootsweb.com <SCNEWBER-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Friday, June 22, 2001 7:19 PM Subject: Re: [SCNEWBERRY] control? >Forgot to say it was Ancestry.com who lost the family sites and all info on >message board during the transistion. Hello fellow SC researchers, This really bothers me, per RootsWeb Review, Vol. 4, No. 25 Dated: 6/20/01 NEW WEB SITES. Some of these might not yet be accessible. If one that interests you isn't up yet, please check again in a few days or a week. http://www.rootsweb.com/~[account name]. Note that the ~[tilde] before the account name is required. FOR EXAMPLE, to visit the Web page for Roanoke County, Virginia, go to http://www.rootsweb.com/~varoanok/ scpicke2 -- Pickens County, South Carolina scnewbe2 -- Newberry County, South Carolina Traci, I am on the Pickens and Newberry lists and have been rather concerned about the new sites, particularly because you've done an awesome job on the old ones. It appears that the Pickens one is now working, but the Newberry one isn't. The Pickens list has been aware of the problems concerning your rather innocuous efforts to raise funds for headstones with a little click box at the web site. I think the Newberry folks should have a little background and be allowed to voice their opinions, too. The whole situation just stinks. But when I saw that RootsWeb is actually creating new websites, it made me mad. Most sincerely, Bonnie Butler
>>After awhile I just don't bother reading, just use the DELETE button. My mama always said, "No use crying over split milk!"<< How interesting, apathy must be spreading throught the genealogical community. For this I am truly sorry. The vast majority of genealogists are truly dedicated in the sharing of information and not playing "my ancestor is I for one thank God that my, any your, Rev War patriotic ancestors didn't feel that way about the treatment by mother England. Had they not risked it all, maybe we would be kneeling before the crown instead of exercising. -----Original Message----- From: Elizabeth Pitts [mailto:libpitts@bellsouth.net] Sent: Friday, June 22, 2001 8:59 PM To: SCNEWBER-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [SCNEWBERRY] How to automatically delete mail from rude people After awhile I just don't bother reading, just use the DELETE button. Forgot to say it was Ancestry.com who lost the family sites and all info on message board during the transistion. Louis S.
Glad to see someone else complain. Our family had about a 3000 name site. All that is gone, and the message board only has messages now from April 2001 and on. All those valuable messages for newcomers and for reference are toast. We don't even know who put our family on. Years and years of lost work. What a disgrace. I wrote them and informed them of the deletions, but of course there was not any reply. Louis S.

What they don't tell you is that you have to re-sign up to receive notification of answers to your queries, even if you checked that box when you posted your original query. And, oh yes, you have to register w/Ancestry.com to automatically receive notifications to your queries. Also, I posted a query and an answer to one of the boards earlier today to test the system and it still have not appeared in my mail box. It's languishing somewhere out there cyberspace I guess. They say you can contact a poster individually instead of posting an answer, but try as I might I cannot figure out how to do this. None of the methods I used worked. There is a search option at each message board, but sometimes it works, most of the time it doesn't! I have written to their tech support asking for clarification but of course, have not heard back from anyone. All in all, I'm not sure I'm happy w/the new set up. Time will tell. ----- Original Message ----- From: <HowdyCuzin@aol.com> To: <SCNEWBER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, June 22, 2001 2:17 PM Subject: [SCNEWBERRY] New message boards from the board administrator > Howdy all from the message board administrator: > > The new message boards are up...
