Hello all, I am researching Marmaduke Jackson Chapman (b. abt 1776). He is listed on the 1820, 1830 and 1840 Newberry County census. I can't find him in 1850 (he would have been 74 yrs old), so I am assuming he died between 1840 and 1850. - Does anyone know if there is probate or will information available for that time period? - Also, did the border of Newberry change drastically between 1840 and 1850? Maybe Marmaduke is still alive in 1850 but listed in another county? - What is the best place to get information about Newberry County? A Newberry Country library (if so, which one) or the SC Archives in Columbia? Thank you for your help, Sandy

Pitts my married name but we haven't been able to connect with Newberry Pitts yet. Used to be some Coates in Mountville,S.C. where my mother (a Chase) was raised. Her mother was a Riser and married a Fuller first m. I also was trying to catch up in the Dutch Fork Digests today and saw two or three items about your Fred. Gray, etc. Yes, that is a nice site. Marlene does a great job! I was trying to recall which family I saw that info in, but not sure - maybe Eichelberger? If I spot it again, I'll buzz you. Did you have anything on the Dawkins, the first wife? lib ----- Original Message ----- From: "Charlotte Coats" <coats@hotmail.com> To: <SCNEWBER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, July 22, 2001 7:10 PM Subject: Re: [SCNEWBERRY] Re: Capt. Hi, Joan: I have a Caroline Nancy Dewalt, born 1829, died 1861. I don't have any information on Caroline's parents. She was married to Orlando Benedict Mayer, born 1818, died 1891. He was a physician and surgeon before and after the War Between the State, and also a writer. (See Mayer Family Sketch.) Many of his books and poems were burned in a fire in Newberry in 1907. They had 4 children that I know of: Orlando Benedict, Caroline V, Katherine, and Mary. Charlotte Milano & Joan Harden wrote: > Hi > > Does anyone have information on the DEWALT family? The Clean up Day at the Bush River Quaker Cemetery, Newberry, SC is planned for Mon Jan 21, 2002, which is Martin Luther King, Jr., National Volunteerism Day. Please mark your calendars and tell your friends! We'll send reminders later. Judy Russell (jruss95@aol.com) Ron Edmundson (ronedmundson@excite.com) Looking at my map of Newberry, the Quaker Cemetery is South and West of town on state Rt 66, Dennis Dairy Road. The Cemetery is on the right as you go out of town, before you cross a little bridge and before Quaker Rd on the right. There is an Historic Marker there. I can't quite see the name of the road leading out from the center of town --could it be Boulware?

Jane, Lurana ROGERS could certainly be part of the Daniel ROGERS family, but I don't have her listed. A cousin wrote a book back in the mid-60s, but concentrated on the male lines. Many of the daughters and wives were either left out or not documented as to parentage, and I've been finding them all over. I think Daniel ROGERS did start out in Colleton Co. but that was such a large place in the beginning that it covers parts of what is not Edgefield and Newberry. I don't how we might take this further, but I will certainly take a look at some of my Newberry/Edgefield books. thanks for writing and let me know if you know of any specifics on her that might help. Hi, I'm looking for information on Rebecca Jones, who married Ezekiel Mathews ca. 1775. They had several children: Thomas, b. 1783, Laurens, SC; Samuel, b. 1776; Elizabeth, b. 1778; Margaret, b. 1780; William, b. 1786; Daniel, b.1788; Abel, b. 1792; John b. 1794; Benjamin, b. 1796; Rebecca; and Julia Ather, b. 1799. Has anyone come across any of these Jones/Mathews connections? I've run out of clues looking for the family of this Rebecca Jones. Dolores, I saw that you are researching Rogers. Are they from Newberry also? My Davenport family has a Rogers in it. Charles Davenport b. 1782 in Newberry Co., SC married Sarah Gary b. in Newberry also. They married in Newberry in 1803. Their son James William Davenport was born in 1806, so probably also in Newberry. He married Lurana Rogers. They married in 1829. Could this Lurana Rogers be part of your Rogers? Jane L. Ooops, I sent info for the wrong cemetery, I think. Sorry.... -----Original Message----- From: DRowe85608@aol.com [mailto:DRowe85608@aol.com] Sent: Saturday, July 07, 2001 11:44 PM To: SCNEWBER-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [SCNEWBERRY] Quaker Cemetery, Newberry, SC I'm sure there are others with more detailed directions than I can give. I've only been to it once. I think there was a Dairy Rd. or something like that. However, there is a plaque/historical marker on the roadside at the site of the Meeting house. The cemetery is back a bit off the road.
