    3. Hi all, i read the previous messages about Bright & Adams i have a Simon BRIGHT married to a cousin, Elizabeth GRAVES of VA & Craven Co. NC no other info on the line except one dau Elizabeth who m. Francis Harper. Elizabeth's line goes back to Francis Graves, son of Capt. Thomas GRAVES of Jamestown. I am trying to unravel the HODGES (HODGE) of Marlboro (Old Cheraw-Long Bluff & Society Hill). Please look up in the books mentioned for HODGES. My John m. Ann STANDARD who was the dau of William Standard, Capt in the Rev War around the area - he was from Edgecombe, NC; his sister Rachel m. Abel WADDELL who died in 1798 Marlboro. My John has been confused with another John of Beaufort NC who m. a Rebecca CHERRY. I also research that line as they are in my son-in-law's ancestry. My John was born in Long Bluff 1755 - his parents: John Hodge and Rebecca of Long Bluff belonged to Welsh Neck Church; his brothers are likely ISHAM, JOSEPH, EDMUND, & RICHARD - his sisters prob. ELIZABETH m. Thomas EVANS, jr. , SARAH m. 1st a MALONE then Jacob BUCKHOLTZ, HANNA m. Joseph DABBS, & LUCY m. Joshua DAVID. Philemon HODGES of Cumberland Co. NC in his pension app states his cousin John Hodges came to his house from Long Bluff and recruited him. "In April 1776 John Hodges my cousin living near Long Bluff, So Ca came to my father's house in No C., a recruiting officer. my brother William, George Draughan & Robert Draughan & myself enlisted & went with him to his father's house in So Ca thence to Nilson's ferry Santee River, about forty miles from Charleston. There we joined Col Thompson's regiment, was sworn in for six months service, remained there for a few days then we ------the return of the soldiers, who having gone home on a fulough as I understand returned, the said John Hodges and his bros (sic brothers) Edmund and Joseph being part of the company, we marched near Charleston to a place called the Ten Mile House and remained there a few weeks. We then marched to the city & on boats went to Sullivan's Island in the night. Our regiment was stationed on the lower end of the Island. etc." Philemon's parents were: William Hodges & Patience HAWKINS of Bladen - Now Cumberland Co. NC. His brothers prob. Welcome, William & Joseph Hodges. This Joseph's pens app: Pension App:W 3995 BLW 14989 Wife Sarah; from Cumberland co. NC born there, 1 Oct 1765; Pvt in Cavalry. Torn out page from a book or bible: John Hodges his book b 30 Nov 1755 Philemon Hodges son of Joseph & Sarah b 9 Jul 1795 Esther Allen Hodges dau of Joseph & Sarah b 5 Oct 1793. John Hodge, Sr b 1720 was the John Hodges pioneeer of SC Outback lived in Old Cheraw.
