I have recently found some of my ancestors in Gibson Co., TN. They migrated out there ca. 1830. I keep running across other families that went out there too. I have just found a link that gives an early Sheriff's Tax List of the inhabitants of 1830. Thought some of you who might be having trouble finding an elusive ancestor might want to check this out. My ancestor, John Donaldson and wife, JIncy Fields had dropped out of site and I was so surprised to find them buried in Gibson Co. TN. She was the daughter of William Fields and his wife, Elizabeth Pledger. Jincy's brother, James Fields and his wife, Julia Allison (1795-1872) also traveled out there and became a huge land owner. Another couple, Frances Bright, daughter of Charles Bright and her second husband John Brickhouse, also went to Gibson Co.,TN. I am wondering how many others went with this group. Julia Allison's brother Robert Allison who was in business with James Fields is also listed on the Gibson Co. tax list of 1830 so he must have gone as well. An interesting story from the history books of Gibson County, TN tells of James Fields dissatisfaction with the local churches, and several of his friends accompanied him back to Marlboro to get a copy of the Baptist church's covenant to take back to TN to start a new church. This was probably the Sawmill Baptist church. http://www.rootsweb.com/~tngibson/sheriffList/sherifflist.htm Joanne H. NC harleyclan@coastalnet.com
