    3. Glenda, I am posting this to several sites in hopes of finding a PACE descendant of these groups. The PACE line I connect with is a Mary PACE, born ca. 1741, married into the ALFORD family ca. 1758,early Granville Co., NC,... migrated down to Robeson Co., NC with Mary's two brothers, James & William PACE ca. 1760+. Just over the state line from Marion is the area in Robeson where the PACE family was settled, and they may well be the ancestors of the large PACE group I just found on the 1860 census of Marion Co., SC which is just a stone's throw from their neighborhood in Robeson Co.,NC. I have visited several PACE sites and have bought a book on this family recently. They were some of the original settlers in the Jamestown colony. The PACE family actually came in with the second boat from England ca. 1611 when the first boatload realized that they needed boatbuilders , and other craftsmen that were not a part of the first group, so they petitioned the King for some of these artisans. Members that can prove their lineage back to this family are eligible for those 'first families' organizations so prized by some folks. At this stage of my research, my particular line, Jacob ALFORD 's wife, Mary PACE, is in question. There is debate over her parents. One early researcher said it was GEORGE PACE and another, doing more recent research, says it was more likely his brother, JAMES PACE. The problem is that these names, MARY, JAMES & WILLIAM are repeated over and over. The book I bought does not cover any descendants that migrated past 1760 in NC toward Marion, so I would not know of any descendants in that area. Please keep me in mind if you run across anyone working on their PACE lineage back into early NC from the Marion or surrounding area. Thanks. Joanne Harley NC jharley2@cox.net
