Calhoun, John Caldwell LAURINBURG -- John Caldwell Calhoun, 91, died Monday, Sept. 15, 2003. Memorial Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, at Church in the Pines Presbyterian Church, U.S. Highway 74, Laurel Hill, N.C. Mr. Calhoun was born March 16, 1912, the youngest of six sons born to the late Lawrence and Elizabeth Gibson Calhoun. He was a graduate of Davidson College. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was an educator and retired as a principal in 1975. Mr. Calhoun was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers. Mr. Calhoun is survived by his wife, Mary Stewart McGoogan Calhoun; daughter, Mary Calhoun Scott and husband Ronald of Darlington; son, John Caldwell Calhoun Jr. of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two grandchildren, Julia Elizabeth Scott and Ronald Calhoun Scott; and nine nieces and nephews. A visitation will follow the memorial. A graveside service for the family will be at Hillside Cemetery preceding the service.
