Hi Sam, The mother church is Welsh Neck Church. The Welsh Baptist in Pennsylvania sent colonist to the upper Pee Pee River, which was just being colonized in the 1730's, from the Welsh Church in what is now Pencader, Maryland. The initial granted site for them to colonize was near the present community of Pee Dee in present Dillon County (Formerly Marion county, Liberty County, Prince Frederick Parish, Craven County in past years). However, most of the colonist where not happy with this site and requested a new site. This new site became known as Welsh Neck in present Marlboro County (formerly Cheraw District, St. David's Parish, ...Craven County). The original Welsh Neck Church Site and Cemetery is at the location of Col. Kolb's Tomb in Marlboro County. This Church is currently located nearby in Society Hill, across the river. The first church to split from Welsh neck was Catfish, which apparently formed from original colonist who remained at the original site. They split in 1754. The current Church is still in Dillon County, now near Mallory Community, not far from Latta, toward Marlboro County. Cashway Ferry Church next started meeting and split from Welsh Neck in 1756. This site is between Catfish and Welsh Neck on the river, in present Marlboro County (intersection of SC Hwy 34 and Great Pee Dee River). This Church later split in 1788 between Black Creek (River?) church in Darlington County and Muddy Creek Church in Marlboro County. Muddy Creek is now known as Brownsville Baptist Church, renamed after the second pastor at Cashway Ferry, Rev. John Brown (removed from New Jersey). This Church is still in the Brownsville Community of Marlboro County. The next was Beauty Spot (just east of Bennettsville), which later moved to McColl and became First Baptist. The first McColl church building was destroyed (dismantled for firewood (campsite) and lumber) by Sherman's troops. There was also a Church in the present Wallace area. Also, Salem Church formed in 1793, near Blenheim (still there).
