Thompson, Eugene "Gene" BENNETTSVILLE -- Services for Mr. Eugene "Gene" Thompson, 75, will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, 2003, at Whitner-Evans Funeral Home. Burial with Masonic Rites will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Marlboro County, P.O. Mr. Thompson died Thursday, Aug. 14. Born in Marlboro County, he was a son of the late John Frank and Florence McLean Thompson. He was the retired owner of Thompson's Mens Store. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, where he served in many capacities on the Official Board. He was a member and past master of Marlboro Masonic Lodge No. 88 AFM. He was a charter member and former chaplain of the Marlboro Rescue Squad. Surviving are his wife, Magilee Davis Thompson of Bennettsville; a daughter, Sharon Helms of Laurinburg, N.C.; a brother, John F. Thompson of Bennettsville; sisters, Clara T. Newhouse of Ypsilanti, Mich., Dorothy Thompson of Bennettsville and Marjorie Rowe of Bennettsville; grandsons, Johnathan Mack Helms and Timothy Adam Helms; nieces; and nephews. submitted by Helen Lane Wiggins
