Hello all, I was scouting around on Genforum and found the following item on the Potter line. Is anyone on the list working on this line? I tried contacting Shawn the submitter but this is a pretty old post so didn't think I would hear anything back. I am checking out their Millie to see if there is any possibility she could be mine for the Rollo line and married William. Would be happy to hear any thoughts on this matter. Thanks Bushy Top of Form[PARA]Stephen Potter 1771 Granville NC/1781 SC Posted by: Shawn Potter Date: November 15, 1998 at 20:38:43 of 4302 [PARA]Bottom of Form[PARA] Bottom of Form Searching for information about Stephen Potter, born about 1742 (perhaps England), married Jemima (possibly Green) in about 1768. Stephen and Jemima had: John Potter (b. c. 1769), Mary Potter (b. c. 1771), William Potter (b. c. 1773), Elizabeth Potter (b. c. 1775), Ephraim Potter (b. c. 1777), female Potter (b. c. 1779), Thomas Green Potter (b. c. 1781), Nancy Potter (b. c. 1783), Stephen Potter Jr. (b. 16 May 1785), Prudence Potter (b. 1 Jan 1788), Adam Potter (b. 8 Jan 1791), Ira Lucius Potter (b. 10 Apr 1794). I am descended from Thomas Green Potter, who married Elizabeth Holland and lived in Spartanburg and Laurens Counties, SC. His father, Stephen, had a brother named Adam Potter, who married Ann Henderson. They also had a sister, named Millie--married name unknown. This family appears in Granville, NC, records in 1771, and moved to upstate SC (Laurens, Spartanburg, Union Counties) by 1780-1. They appear to have known Stephen Wilson in Granville, NC, as well as several Kirby families. They may be brothers of Thomas Potter and Benjamin Potter, who intermarried with the Kirby families and moved to Kentucky. If anyone has any information on Stephen Potter's family (including his wife), please let me know.

Greetings all, I am researching the families that show up on the documents that are dealing with my Rollo line. I have William Rollo selling land to William Strother in 1801 and of course the deed is on the web page. I have pulled what documents I could find in Charleston on the Strother line. I don't know if their one in the same although the one document of Samuel Strother is in Craven Co., SC. I will post them to the list and if Victoria thinks they go to the Marlboro county site if you could please post them there or if not then to the state site I sure would appreciate it. If anyone has knowledge of the Strother line I would love to hear from you or anyone else who has documents that includes them. Have a great day Bushy

The so-called "Freeman map" was named by some for a 1908 map prepared by a man named Freeman. The map shows eight townships and the names of owners of real estate in these townships are listed on the back of the map. The map is available from the Marlboro Historical Society in Bennettsville. Hi Sue, This was a county wide map of places and homeowners, done in 1908, with the homeowners printed on the map being listed in alphabetical order on the back. This map was recently reproduced, on acid free paper, in full color and size (approx. 2ft by 3ft) by the Marlborough Historical Society, and is available at the museum (843-479-5624). What is a Freeman map? Thanks, Sue
Greetings all, Well, managed a quick trip to Charleston to view their microfilms on the will books. I will be sending some to Victoria to post on the county page. The following will contains instructions to an Elizabeth Rolo and her children can anyone tell me who the father of these children are? Does this mean that Elizabeth is a Hardwick? Or does this mean she had children by a Hardwick but never married so they have her surname but the biological father's surname as a middle name? Why would William want to make sure the children were cared for? Why was it so important for him to say the children's entire name everytime? Please put this on the web page too Victoria, thanks for your hard work. Thanks for any input Bushy WILL OF WILLIAM HARDWICK In the name of God Amen. Bill, Thank you for the offer to post names from the Freeman map. I would find it very helpful. I have the map on the wall next to my computer & I forgot about the names on the back. Dee Leviner
Bill, It would be wonderful if you would send the list of families in each township to the list. I have searched thru countless documents to see if their were two McColl families on Beaver Dam Creek and perhaps your list would answer the question. Thank you for offering. Dorothy
I can't put my hands on it at this moment but the 1908 so-called "Freeman" map (named for the engineer who drafted it, I think) published by the Marlboro Historical Society lists owners of real estate and shows the townships in which the properties were located. Eight townships were identified, as follows: Adamsville, Bennettsville, Brightsville, Brownsville, Hebron, Red Bluff, Red Hill and Smithville. I believe they are delineated on the map. I transcribed into a Microsoft Excel document the 1,900 or so names printed on the back of the map and can sort them by township. This list occupies about 38 pages. I will send a hard copy to Ms. Proctor if there is interest in having it for the Marlboro site. Hi, Bill; As long as you brought it up, do you have a listing for a SNIPES family (and which Township they lived in)?
