    2. R. Eamon Graham
    3. Hello List Members! I'm looking for information about the ancestors or descendents of the following couple: Preston Driggers (28 September 1900), his father was Joe Driggers, from Kollock, SC. His mother _may_ have been named McQueen. He married Estelle Hodge born in 1899 or 1900 and died in 1971. She was originally from Hartsville, but moved to Cheraw around 1916. After Preston's death, she married a man whose last name was Joye. I believe her mother was Zaney (or Zany) Quick, who lived in Brightsville when the 1880 census was taken. She was born around 1852. If any of these names ring a bell, or if anyone has any information, I would appreciate any help you can offer. Thank you very much! Eamon Graham Angers, France

    3. I would be most grateful if someone could do a lookup in the 1900 census for Clio in Marlboro County. I am trying to find the parents and family of Braxton C. Newton. I have the following information: In the 1910 census Braxton was 28 and living with his mother who was 55. The handwriting is hard to read, but I believe her first name was Della. From the 1900 census I would like to find out the name of Braxton's father, if he was still living, and whether there were other children at home at that time. Thanks in advance for any help.

    1. [SCMARLBO-L] Catholic records
    2. Mildred Venitucci
    3. Does anyone have any idea where I could find records for marriages performed in the Catholic Church in or around Newberry District? Specifically, close to Maybinton? My Slatterys were Catholic; Mother was Caroline O’Neal, m. Thomas Slattery, son of Piercy Slattery. Daughters were my g.grandmother, Frances, who m. my g.grandfather, a Methodist preacher in AR (John Wesley Bridges); Julie Slattery, who married Samuel Wesley Murtishaw in Maybinton (he was also protestant); Sarah C. Slattery, who married in 1870 Joseph Kelly from Fairfield County. I think probably Joseph Kelly was Catholic…but not sure—would a Catholic marriage have been listed in the SOUTHERN CHRISTIAN ADVOCATE? Married by a Rev. McCroy, I believe. Thanks for any advice or direction!! Mildred

    3. Helen-thanks so much for posting that information about Duncan Donald McColl. I may have mentioned this to the list, but bear with me once more, please. Duncan D. McColl was a witness to something that a BRIDGES signed-Maybe the wife of a DAVID, who later married a STUBBS-too late to hunt right now-but the name stuck with me. My BRIDGES originated in the Marlboro-Marion district, and the progenitor, Benjamin Bridges Sr., married a Rebecca Stubbs. Their son Ben Jr. married Mary Cival Henagan. Both families, along with other brothers and sisters of Ben Jr., moved to GA during the time of the land lotteries. Ben Jr. had a son named John Wesley Bridges. John W. was the father of my grandmother by his second wife, Frances Slattery of Newberry Co. By his first wife, John Wesley Bridges had among others a son named DUNCAN D. BRIDGES, b. 1858, d. 1862. Duncan was, of course, on the 1860 census for Pulaski Co., AR. My g.grandfather, John Wesley BRIDGES, also had a "Remembrance Plaque" printed on dark blue shiny paper with gold lettering, which commemorated the lives of his first wife and 3 deceased children, among whom was DUNCAN D. BRIDGES. This plaque is in my possession, given to me by my mother's cousin, who said she didn't have the foggiest notion of who those people were, but perhaps I might! ANCESTRY magazine ran an article in the past year about these plaques. The name Duncan D. was in no other Bridges family that I know of-even the brothers and sisters of John Wesley did not name any children that-but I always felt like there was a connection with the Duncan D. McColl who signed that document which I found early in my search. My BRIDGES ancestors must have held him in high esteem. If anyone could shed any light on this, I would be very appreciative. Happy Mother's Day to all-my first in 68 years without my own wonderful MOM, the daughter of a BRIDGES Renaissance Woman! Mildred Venitucci

    3. Good Evening, Is anyone else researching the Parr families of SC? My husband's gr gr gr grandparents were John Parr and Nancy Ann Hewitt, who are found on the 1850 census for Chesterfield Dist., SC. John was born about 1822 and died in a fire at the jail in Chesterfield in 1852. Nancy then married Jesse Sweat in 1853. I know this family is not from the Marlboro area but felt that since these counties are so close together maybe someone might be able to help us. Regards, Nancy E Parr
